Correct speaker size for 93 touring?

Does anyone know the correct replacement speaker size for the front doors of a 1993 FD with the Bose system? I've seen them on sites like crutchfield as 5.25"s. And other sites as 6.5"s.
Will either of these size speakers fit easily without any modification?
Also, is ther enough room to do a component series. (driver with X-over and tweeter)?
Thanks.

A shallow 6.5" will fit up front on a non-Bose car. I don't know what modifications you'll have to do with a Bose system. There's a lot of info in the search doing on this topic though....

Bose is actually a 4-5.25 set up, you can remove the box and put in a 6.5 shallow aftermarket speaker. You can get away with a regular 6.5 with a spacer and a little trimming on the door panel.

If you want to retain the box for mid base Dimond Audio Hex 4" fits perfect. You could also put the twets in the box if you don't want them seen. I don't think there would be any difference from 93 to 94. If you just want a simple 2 way then MB Quart 4" fits but these are assuming you are replacing the Bose head unit.

Yes, replaced the Bose head unit and Cd player w/eclipse 7301 cd and cassette 5.8" monitor.
I was planning on replacing the front door speakers with some Infinity Kappa 5.25's or a component series with tweeter & X-over. Then fitting some 6X8's in the rear when I dig up some brackets. Just wasn't sure what would fit in the door locations. I don't really want to spend an entire day getting speakers to fit in the stock locations.
Thanks for the info.

For the front, you will have to stick with 4" or replace the box with either OEM or something fabed up with wood maybe. You still may run in to depth issues with the OEM non bose bracket.

For the rear, 5x7 or 6x8 is th easiest because of the shape of the hole but if you are running power from the head unit then maybe 5.25 F/R but you'll need a custom bracekt for the rear. You don't necessarily need to but another oem grill if you are doing a custom install. They can pop out the pocket and put on cloth to cover the hole.

X-overs don't need to go ont he door, they can go anywhere and then run wires to the door. Most of the time they go in the kick panels. Tweets can go on the Bose box, on the top of the door or a-pillars.

Eclipse makes some nice seperates (have them on my CRX) that mount like 2 ways (Pointsource). Extremely easy install, better sound then then 2 ways. May be just what your looking for since you didn't mention amps and most seperates need high power. The ones I have are SC8254 (older versions). The only down side is aluminum tweets. Some people liek them but I prefer silk. http://www.eclipse-web.com/speaker/index.html#spe They will be underpowered but it lets you grow and add amps later. If you don't plan on adding amps then you need to find they most efficient speakers with a min power of no more then 15w RMS.

Thanks, I actually have two sets of Eclipse components in another car. A 5.25" set in the front doors and 6.5" in the rear. They are being pushed by PPI amps and sound incredible. Then 2 - OZ 12" subs powered by another PPI amp for some bass. It's one of the better sounding cars I've ever done. I think it took me, somewhere in the ballpark, of 48 hrs of working nonstop to get it done. I'm trying to avoid that this time. I just want something simple to dump the Bose. I'll probably use the Infinity Basslink II (10" sub w/built in amp) for some bass, and weight savings and can add a 4 channel amp to the unit. Doesn't get much easier than that, and shouldn't sound half bad.
I guess for a quick swap I should just be looking at 4" for the front then?

I need your help to confirm that the following configuration will fit in an FD before I pull the trigger on my order:

Front Speakers:
Polk MMC 650 = 6.5" spkr with 2 + 7/16 top mount depth. My understanding is that any speaker under 2.5= in depth should work....

Rear speakers:
Polk MMC 570 The rears are 5x8/6x7 with 2 + 9/16 top mount depth.

I will purchase a set of Mike's brackets for the rear

and a set of these Ebay brackets for the front:

Thanks in advance for your help!

Rob
