Clay Bar?
Hey guys,
My 93 has some small scratches and what looks like white paint spots or something like that- the paint is in good condition otherwise. Should I use a clay bar type product or is waxing the best i can do?
Can anyone give me feedback on claybars?
Thanks,
Ben

Waxing does nothing to remove scratches or contaminants. Use a good paint cleaner (3M, Maguiars) or the clay bar (with the lubricant) to remove those. Then use a good polish on the paint, followed by waxing. Takes a bit of elbow grease but looks great and protects your paint.

the clay bar is great, ive used the mothers gold one before... had the same thing, little white specs of paint on my otherwise black car... took a lil while, but they came right off, just make sure you keep enough of the lubricant on there, and keep folding the clay into iself when it gets dirty

I hear mixed opinions on the clay bar. Try the clay bar then look for some polish compound to bring back as much shine as possible. Auto Magic or 3M will have products. Make sure you get a compound that has no abrasive nature though, unless you know what your doing and will be doing it in steps. I used an Auto Magic polymer compound "Awesome Gloss", then sealed it with a coat of carnuba paste. My paint is A1 now.

A bunch of us were talking about the Mother's clay bar at the Rotorfest we had over here in NJ. I just used it last week (on the hood only) to get rid of some bug stains and baked in bird crap. The hood came out absolutely fantastic. I followed it up with a fine polishing cleaner, then some carnauba wax.
It is tricky though, using just the right amount of 'lubricant'. Too much and it's too slippery, too little, and the clay doesn't glide. You get the hang of it though after awhile.

I agree 100%. The clay bar is the ****! Never EVER polish or wax your car before using the clay bar. It removes all the contaminates.
