I'm working on the one for my 10AE. I'm trying to decide on which front end to use. Right now I'm between Frodoplayer and Media Engine.

When it's finished, it'll be used to run/display my Haltech, mp3s, videos and GPS.

I have actually been able to keep costs down a fair bit by perusing ebay during my build. The guys over at mp3car.com are quite informative, so look around over there and see for yourself! I'll try to get some pics of the build up asap.

another vote for mp3car.com my friend did one for his mr2, and it came out pretty good. ALTHOUGH the sound processing isnt nearly as crisp as my sound system, but I think thats because im running more than 2k of audio and hes only $500

Yea mp3car is a great start, I was working with the idea in my car but other mods took my mind away from it for the time being...

I think RedRX7 has a really nice setup in his 3-rotor FD, similar to what I planned to do. EJMack formed the Lulliput 7" touchscreen into his dash just like RedRX-7 did and as I planned to. I feel its the perfect screen for most applications, particularly ours.

I posted some pics of mine... Using a laptop w/dock station and a lilliput 7" touchscreen. Mini USB hub in the ashtray. Haltech connected to dock station also. All fits in my FC pretty nicely. I think a mini mac would be a cool setup too.

I have been toying with the idea of the carputer, I never understood how you would be able to turn on the amps, without the assistance of a headunit?

the amp just has a relay in it. You still get it to turn on the same way, connect that wire to an ignition wire and you are good to go.

No, that's the only pic I took. It's a Toshiba Libretto that I converted to fit into the CF radio surround. It's main purpose is to tune the E-Manage, but I've got an old version of Media Engine on there as well.
