Biggest system in FD

What's the largest system in an FD out there. You never see more than a couple tens in the sevens that make the magazines. My friend told me I couldn't fit my two 15's in the trunk, so I made a box to fit'em .

Not very large. Most FD owners don't feel like ruining their car.

thanks smart **** but seeing as I normally don't have it in how is that ruining my car? Obviously you don't like bass, good for you, I was just asking a simple question, not for your opinion.

i've got two Infinity Kappa 120.3DVC twelves running about 550 RMS with a Rockford amp @ 2 ohms. I made the box meself, fits under the strut brace it is pretty pimp if i do say.

I must say that that sounds like overkill for such a small enclousure as the FD.... Plus anything much over 10's is going to have a slower frequency response... (It takes longer for a 15" Cone to settle and be ready for another hit than a 10")

I could def. see it being overkill for some. True about the responsiveness, 12's give you the best of both worlds. I just thought it'd be fun to put them in, seeing as I haven't seen it done before.

i have one 10" Polk sub in my car pushing about 160RMS, and honestly i think that is more than plenty for the size of the interior. To each his own, but i think putting 4 10's or 2 15's in a FD is crossing the line from being different to just plain overkill. Plus our cars get enough vibrations from solid motor mounts, diff braces, etc etc, and im not sure id want any more from subs!
Although, i cant help but be curious about how u got 15's in there....pics?

Mazda's engineers spent countless hours trying to find ways to lighten the FD with its "lowly" 255 hp so it could be a match performance-wise with its peers, the 300ZX Twin Turbo, MKIV Supra, and 3000GT VR-4, all rated at 300+ hp. And now you want to add 100 - 200 lbs. in stereo equipment and comprimise its weight distribution and power-to-weight ratio?

I plan on getting one 15" Audiobahn in a custom fiberglass box. It's going to be a removable box so that if i want to sound good, I can put it in an bump the hell out of whoever is beside me. If I want to race, then i'll take it out so that there will be less weight in my car. I wouldn't say that putting a system in an FD is "ruining it" but I would have to say that mounting a permanent audio system, weighing in at around 200 lbs would be damaging the performance of the car in a great amount unless you have some insane HP to make up for it.

the apexi rx6 and street-ported motor are kind of used up in the sub box, but still, the car only weighs 2900 lbs with a full tank and functioning a/c, p/s, etc., etc....

...wow I didn't know my box weighed 200 lbs, I must be a beast to carry the thing from my trunk to the garage all the time, guess I'm stronger than I thought. It doesn't weigh that much for one, and second, if I am racing I take it out. weight distribution isn't needed when normal driving.

Oh yeah, mights as well add the rest....

This powers them.. Memphis Belle St-1300d 5 channel amp... 1300w continuous into 1 ohm (stable) for the subs, then 150w into each of the surround speakers.. the two caps help it.

Then, because you can never have too much music.. .or power...

and finally, for those really long road trips (and if you want to go to jail...

Mainly for the "wow" factor... the in dash cd is also a dvd player... kinda tight...

final pic... night view...

BTW- anyone else found a place to mount two avc-r style units? I was thinking of molding them into either side of the cluster hood by glassing, but they're too big for the left side..

as far as the guys talking about the weight and distribution and all that my question is this... do you drive at 10/10 the cars potential all the time? if you dont then you will not notice the 50-60lbs a set of speakers and an amp will make.

if an fd weighs ~2900lbs then 60lbs is ~2%. now i don't know how much difference that makes to you, but i sure as hell didnt notice a change in performance.

I do agree that 2 12's was overkill, but my amp has gain adjust as does my head unit. I just turn it down when I don't wanna rattle the neighbor's windows. in hindsight I would gone with 2 10"s, but I got a hella good "fell off the truck deal" on the 12's.

I wanna know where the Ejection Mechanisim for the speakers sits, when a Viper With a 1/2 way descent sound system pulls up next to you, and you just proved you're the man with your bass, but now need to show off that you're "Go" too not just show...

And I'm sorry, but that setup ^^ is just cluttered !

I Also wondered why car / after market manufacturers have gone to Blue for gauge clusters ???
There's a reason Subs(Submarines), and other surveilance equipment is green or red, your eyes (cones and rods), react better to that light when having to adjust to total darkness, and you're better able to catch movement out of the corner of your eye...

Hello! The enclosure including two 15" subs, and a big amp (or amps) and caps (if you're using them) will weigh in the neighborhood of at least 100 lbs. closer if not more than 200 if you're running heavier DVC subs with big magnets. What did you think I meant? I specifically said, "stereo equipment". But hey, to each their own. It's your car, do as you like, but IMO, it defeats purity of purpose in a narrowly focused lightweight sports car as the FD.

i prefer bump when i want it, and i can easily unbolt the whole assembly when i want to race it. I DON'T street-race (too many tickets and a $160K scholarship is lost if I go to jail).... so it suits me fine.

whoa... check that **** out. My 666th post..... thats freaking spooky..

Rjuge, your night view pic is awesome....

If you guys want a system in an FD, then buy an 18 inch Resonant Engineering XXX....with a Cadence ZRS-10....oh god....that would be crazy loud...heavy though. Actually, I doubt the XXX would fit in an FD...but maybe.
