Anodizing Services -> ?

I'm looking to get a couple parts anodized black, and was wondering if someone could recommend a company to have do the work. I'm having difficulty finding a company that does individual jobs rather than large run contracts.

thanks,
Rob

It's an aluminum TB which ofcourse has several small moving parts. I'm afraid that powdercoating will eventually flake off in this application.

Rob,

Dunno if this shop does anodizing, but I'm sure they'd know who does in the least. Give it a shot.

For grins I asked them what they would want to polish my UIM. Who would have guessed $700? These guys do a lot of boat & restoration work and are used to charging boat prices.

I have seen a few guys that do small anodizing jobs on the net.. I would search out one of those folks..

Thanks Ramy,

I found a company in Lorton that does anodizing.

Alexandria Metal Finishers
9418 Gunston Cove Road - Lorton, VA 22079-2314
Phone: 703-643-1636 • Fax 703-690-6731
e-mail: info@alexandriametalfinishers.com

They have a $150 minimum fee and they seem like good people. I had about a 15 minute conversation on the phone discussing the anodizing process.

I did not realize that you can only anodize aluminum. If you were to dip any other metal other than aluminum you would destroy that metal. Anodizing is basically dyed oxidation as funny as that sounds. The chemical that the parts are dipped in under current create a thin layer of an oxide coating (oxidation) which is died in the process.

As far as price goes, anodizing can actually be cheaper than powdercoating.

it costs about $120 to powdercoat a wheel, but you can anodize that same wheel for about $60 or so. As the items get smaller that difference in price begins to decrease.

I still have not decided on which process I'll go with.

I called American Stripping in Manassas and they apparently do throttle bodies now and then with no complaint so I'm assuming that there shouldn't be too much of a problem.
