After Market Shift **** fit (pix)

Has anyone used an after market shift **** similar to this one? Feels pretty good and we like the look EXCEPT it doesn't fit down as far as the stock **** and so we have that gap with the boot. Don't want to cut down the shifter, just wondering if anyone had figured out a fix for the gap?

Thanks

The shifter gets wider just below where the shift **** sits. You can use a washer or rubber spacer under the boot to hold it up to the shift **** and close the gap.

the stock looking mazdaspeed one is the best in my opinion. It screws down to the stock location and is a bit heavier for better shifts.

i did!!

take off the leather boot via removing the plastic surroundings but b4 you do, mark with a sharpy on the shifter where the boot hits it's highest pointl. then slip a rubber bushing of some sore one that is wide and tight down the shifter to your mark. Replace the plastic cover with the leather over top of the bushing, this will hold the leather up...then simply screw down the shift **** and it will sandwich the leather

+1 For the Mazdaspeed, it's my favorite shift **** out of any I've ever tried.

is that shifter in the pic held on with set screws. if so u can do what i did.
i found a metal sleeve that fits inside the shifter **** and threaded the inside to screw onto the shifter stick. i then held the sleeve in with the set screws allowing the shifter to screw right down onto the flare part of the stick.
u dont have to worry about screwing that little silver finish piece up. hence the shifter sits alot lower. does that make any sense?

now my shifter sits down a good inch or 2 lower then stock.
the stock **** is great. but IMO it still sits up 2 high

ppritchard,

Completely off subject: Is that a JDM head unit? Looks good.

Not a JDM head unit, it's a 2002 OEM Millenia one. Same steps as the Miata headunit switch. Works great and the buttons are on the correct side for LHD.

Jacob, Check out the links I attached.

No, I believe it is only avaliable in black stiching.

RP sells them for $129
http://rx7.com/store/rx7/fdinterior_accessories.html

Corksport, however, sells them a lot cheaper. $84
(scroll all the way to the bottom of the page)
http://corksport.com/store/category/...-interior.html

I had this ****, I loved it.

Ya..See where the Shifter Shaft gets wider?..Take and remove the Boot and Surround off Temporarily..Take the **** off, slip a Thick Rubber O ring onto the part where the shaft of the Shifter gets wider.then Put the Boot and Surround back on,ehn put the shifter **** back on..It will Hold the boot up and make the **** look like it was Made to fit..it should...Basically Like what Monster Box said(Sorry monster,I did a Quick read..).If that doesn't tickle your Fancy then you could always resort to Cutting the Shifter about a Half an inch.I know you Don't want to do that, unless you have to..So there ya go..Two Remedies to your **** Problem!.,Cheers.STYX.

i got a carbon fibre Mazdaspeed one and its become a bit loose. And i think my car has a short shifter kit as for some reason i get engine noise through the gear stick and it echoes into the loose ****. Really annoys me when im driving sometimes. I still have the same gap but its not really noticable anyway.

I have a momo shift **** on a B&M shifter in my FD and it was very loose when I first installed it. I got a adapter from GoMiata.com and it fixed the problem for good. Solid as heck and that's been a couple of years.
