If your going to do something.....do it right.
You can tell the difference between the two easly. The JDM ones have a actual curve to the lens in the circles to give them a more rounded look when lit. You may not see this when the car is driving 50ft in front of you, but if the car is parked and im checking out these kewl J-spec tail lights, I'm gonna know whether or not this person is into the real deal or not. Why not use some real cool Ractive parts on the cars while we are at it(sarcastic voice)
don't really agree - a person with the "real" jdm lights actually prefered the look of mine. said the spacing was better placed... the two brake lights on the jdms are too close together.

I've had them both. The 99 Spec lip looks better IMO and is of higher quality.

I like that the R1 fits right. They both look nice.

I like the 99 spec lip. Once I finish with the reliability mods on my car I'll start with the looks. 99 spec lip and black interior and others

I like the '99 spec lip. When installed on the stock '93 front end, a little edge sticks out below the vents (about 1/4"), and the tips extend about 1/4" into the wheel well. It's hardly noticeable until you point it out to someone...then they'll always see it.

www.rx7.com has them advertised at $189...

I like both of the lips. I sold my R1 lip to get a 99 spec lip. The 99 spec looks a lot better; it's more agressive. But I like the fact that the R1 fits perfectly.

I have the 99 spec. It scrapes a lot, but it isn't painted; therefore, it isn't a big deal.

Has anyone painted the R1 lip? Can you, it seems like it would have a hard time stickin the paint. I think I would rather get the R1 lip and paint it. Thats just me.

I don't know whose conversions you've seen but Herb Blenny's and rx7even's are very well done.
I agree, I did the tail light conversion myself. I had those raised bulbs but it wasn't the newer kind

As for the front lip...I voted 99 Spec. I still have the R2 lip but just waiting to get all the engine mods out of the way before working on cosmetics. Which all that engine **** should be done next week! yeeehaaawww

When Installing the R1 Lip, is it difficult? What procedure does it require?

It just bolts on..

jack up the front of the car, unbolt the little 1" lip if thats what you have and there should be existing holes to bolt the lip to the bumper.
