99 spec, without a doubt - even on the stock bumper. that, along with the 99 tail lights are 2 cheap things you can do that makes the car SOOO much nicer for such little money

The 99 spec lip is pretty cheap. but honestly, those damn lights are pretty expensive. I'd say save that money on other modifications, like a feed type II bumper. Those are sick!!

don't buy the lights! for less than $40 and 2 hours of work, you too can have them! really, though - there are several web sites that show how to do it. i did it - cheap, easy, and you CAN NOT tell the difference from the real deal.

I think both look pretty cool. But being an R1 owner, I would feel kinda stupid with the 99 front lip and nothing else updated ... but not for long. '99 spec turbos on the way, baby. One thing though ... the '99 lip is actually functionally different. Something about directing more of the air flow to the sides and less underneath; helping increase stability, especially at higher speeds. Anyhow, my $0.02

those hand made tail light jobbies look like !%#@!
If your going to do something.....do it right.
You can tell the difference between the two easly. The JDM ones have a actual curve to the lens in the circles to give them a more rounded look when lit. You may not see this when the car is driving 50ft in front of you, but if the car is parked and im checking out these kewl J-spec tail lights, I'm gonna know whether or not this person is into the real deal or not. Why not use some real cool Ractive parts on the cars while we are at it(sarcastic voice)

$800 bucks.....where you buying from??
you can get them $450 shipped to you from 4jspec.com
I assume you have never seen the real ones to be able to see the diffference? You think there is black paint or your carbon fiber just slapped on JDM ones to make them look round?
the U.S spec lenses are flat the whole way through........the J-spec is also flat, except where the round part of the lens is. this part of the lense actually bubbles out (3-D) to give them a more round effect
what the hell are you talking about?! maybe if a 5 year old did them you could tell a difference. into the real deal - whatever, sure - then maybe you can tell someone who has nothing else to do with $800.(yeah, that's a sarcastic voice)

I don't know whose conversions you've seen but Herb Blenny's and rx7even's are very well done.

the 99 lip looks better than the 93R1 Lip. I had the 93 and switched to the 99 for a more aggressive look. Cons of the 99 lip is that it doesn't line up with the R1 "brake ducts" as well. Pros are that it provides more downforce to the front of the car. BOth are better for high speed driving, but the 99lip is better than the 93

Also, the fitment isn't much of an issue...it looks much nicer than the R1 lip and basically requires that you use a pair of self-tapping screws on the 2 points where it doesn't mate up 100%.

BUT, using contact paper and some paint, for under $40 you can get round tail lights that look as good as the real thing. since the only people who look at my tail lights are other drivers who wouldn't know the difference between that or the "JDM" , who cares. unless you feel like paying $450 for piece of mind.
