15" Sub in a FD
Tried searching but came up empty. Anyone have any pics or suggestions on stuffing a 15" sub into a FD? I have a system I am getting ready to put in and looking to see how most people have accomplished this without walling off the rear or anything elaborate like that. To me simpler is better. FYI its a 15" Illusion Audio sub.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Look up Illusion Audio, its a full Carbon Fiber and composite sub with a 4" mounting depth. It is strictly a sound quality sub. I am sure there are 10's out there that hit harder than these things...

Maybe it would sound louder mounted that way instead of a sub mounted between thr strut towers pointing back.

I agree with dohckiller808. If it's really 4" shallow it might fit flush with the trunk floor. Maybe you could do a three piece false floor with 5/8" or 3/4" MDF baffle and the rest of the luggage floor out of 3/8" ply or something lighter to cover the fuel pump access and maybe a sunken part (for a amp) in the third piece that would fit behind the trunk divider. Have you run WinISD and determined a sq ft for a sealed box with Illusion Audio 15"sub ? Somewhere around 30hz. Maybe you could mount it magnet up and not have to raise the luggage floor at all.

sq,
You don't use 5/8" for anything 10" or larger. And recommending to use 3/8" (!) plywood (!!) for an audio install? Then name-dropping "WinISD?" Seriously, where are you getting this from?
btw, my most recent installation was 2 high-excursion 10's inside an FD's bins (a moderate amount of fiberglass, a little 3/4" MDF, a little bondo and a couple sore knees). With just over 200 RMS to each, they easily overpower the owner's front 5-1/4 Eclipses, all pushed by a single RF 4-channel amp. (Before anyone tries to question the math on this one, the woofers are dual 6-ohm's parallel-wired, and 200 RMS is actually conservative, based on the amp's power certificate.) The owner still has his entire trunk for groceries, plus it's a stealth install (everything looks stock), a low center of gravity (so the car still handles well), woofers really close to the passengers (so they kick your @$$), plus it's done right because I installed them

A 15" woofer with only 4" of mounting depth doesn't have the magnet depth or strength to push and pull such a large woofer to any appreciable degree of sound quality, regardless of what they wrote on the side of the box.

I have a JL Audio 8W7 and it BARELY fits in mine. Since the trunk is so small, I wanted something small, but would still be very powerful and loud and it sure is loud My box is not even ported, but I don't even wanna imagine what it would sound like if it was! haha
I think the point everyone is trying to make, is that with a 15'' sub, it needs a very large box to actually produce clean loud bass. You can def fit a 15'' sub in an FD, but it probably wouldn't sound as good/loud as it should sound. It's not gonna be putting out its full potential in such a small trunk

This review had good things to say about it. They also did the WinISD homework for you and suggested a 2.5 cuft sealed box.
