Wire the fuel the haltech way, or my way?

Ok, before I got my haltech I rewired my fuel pump. Fat 8 guage wire, relay etc etc. Do you guys think I should use the Haltech leads to power the pump, or just switch the relay? It seems like all that 8ga wire would go to waste.

8ga wire is way overkill, but if you want to keep it keep it. it is simple to have the ECU turn on and off the pump instead of a seperate switch though. remember this is one of the Haltech options you paid for.

Use the haltech to power the relay for your 8 gauge wire. I don't think the haltech can handle that much amperage.

8AWG is fine.&nbsp You don't mention what fuel pump you're using.&nbsp Some of the bigger aftermarket fuel pump run some pretty good current!&nbsp Anything over 20A should be using larger wires over the wires the Haltech comes with...

Walbro 255lph fuel pump runs under 20A, so the Haltech wiring should be adequate.&nbsp We've run these fuel pump with the supplied Haltech wiring with no problems.

Use this as a guide,(from the National Electrical Code):

14AWG 15Amps max
12AWG 20Amps max
10AWG 30Amps max
8AWG 40Amps max
6AWG 55Amps max

I think what you're quoting from NEC is only applicable to AC wiring. Whether it's AC or DC and the voltage is crucial for determining what is the minimum wire size for a given amperage, along with whether the conductor will be free-standing or bundled with other conductors.

So how much could a 3 gauge wire handle on 12V?

It is a 7 strand wire.

Length plays a large roll in that Code too

I have an Aeromotive a1000 fuel pump and just got a Haltech. How should I wire this? if the Haltech wires are too small?
