Haltech Wierd issue with injector staging!
Wierd issue with injector staging!
First some some background
I just did a rebuild, on a car that already had an E6X setup running 550/1600's
After doing some break in i decide to gingerly creep into boost, but as soon as i hit the point where the secondaries come on my car leans out like crazy and stalls. OK so i think i don't have enough fuel but adding some to primaries or secondaries doesn't help at all... its so lean it wont fire at all and bogs down, as soon as i let off and go back to where only the primaries are working i get my normal AFR's again.
By doing some some trial and error with the help of a friend with more Haltech/Rotor experience - he noticed that even with the secondaries set to 0 ms across the board- whenever we specify the staging to begin 4th bar, 10th, 14th etc that's when the car leans out. I have double checked my secondaries are connected and wired in the correct order and everything looks OK to me.
any ideas?

if you set the secondaries to 0ms (zeroing out the fuel map after the staging bar, yes?) then ofcourse its going to run lean
First, where was the staging bar set when you first had the problem? And what was the approx. on time on the bar BEFORE staging?
Second have you checked to make sure all your setting in the fuel setup page are correct? Ie. set to staging etc.

what i mean is i set the staging bar to -8psi where the primaries deliver enough fuel on their own. if the staging is set to 12th bar (0psi) i am fine, exact same map if i tell the 2ndaries to stage at -8psi i start to lean out at that same point even though i am using the same amount of fuel only from the primaries just as before- the only difference is when the haltech starts to use the map on the secondaries. The map and settings, injectors etc were all in place before i did a rebuild. the only thing that changed was i rebuilt the engine and rewired the injector connectors because the old ones didn't have the retaining clips anymore.
hope this makes more sense...
nothing changes but where my staging bar is set, as seen in these maps....
if i set the staging bar to 24 everythitng is fine on the primaries alone until i run out of injector lol

The answer to your fueling problems are simply put, you are turning on the Staged injectors at the wrong point, and the way your fuel map is laid out for a 2bar MAP sensor, thats why that step is there halfway through the map. If you are you using a 3bar MAP sensor you need to basically roll that step back to the zero load point.
What is the rest of your setup?

i was changing the staging bar to troubleshoot the issue, normally it is near 0-1 psi
turns out i had several issues affecting voltage causing a drop when all 4 injectors came on- and that is why whenever my seccondaries were energized all 4 injectors would have issues.

And what was that exactly? a shorted injector? incorrect current setup? alternator/power issues?
