LS1 coils and constant power supply

I just wired my coils again and rather then running the voltage supply through half a dozen fuses and relays i decided to wire the power supply right from the fuse block in the engine bay. now i realized that the coils are receiving power even when the ignition is off.
Would this harm the coils or should I wired them in behind a relay set to click on when the ECU comes on?

Dont try to reinvent the wheel. The power supply line for the coils is there for a reason. Unless you're not using an E8/E11/Ps1k/2k box?

yes i'm running an E6x.
I was also going for a more clean engine bay. I removed more then half the wires in the main body harness. no more relays in the engine bay, coils are tucked under the UIM.
I also heard that the LS1 coils can get a little fatter spark if the power is supplied right from the battery.

Not a good idea, they'd be powered up all the time so if you get any sort of noise in lines, you get spark firing, at the very least put them on a fused relay.

You are using them with an E6X, spark will not be the same as if you were using an E8/E11/Ps1k/2k in sequential mode.

when i removed most of my body harness the only fuses i was left with in the engine bay was the BTN, HEAD and also the main, I have it wired to where the "ECU comp" fuse was on the block but i replaced the 40amps for 20amps. I'll throw that relay in, won't be hard to do.
Thanks much for the imput.
