Using E6K on XP and USB

Who out there is doing this? How did you do it? What serial/USB adaptor are you using?

Thanks

Best explanation I can give...given by someone else. We've run a K on an XP machine but the computer geeks took care of getting it booted.

I personally use the Keyspan usb to serial adapter and it works just fine, but, you should be using either VirtualPC if you want DOS software to work on XP, since it doesnt comunicate for some reason that has eluded everyone.

I personally use VirtualPC to run a DOS partition and have all the Haltech DOS programs in there and it works fine, but my laptop has a serial port. I also use the Keyspan serial adapter to connect to my Innovate AFR meter.

USB+dos, doesnt work... dos died out before USB took over, i don't think your going to find USB DOS drivers anywhere, and all of those USB to Serial adapters will on work in windows.
as a nother option it is posible to convert your paralelle into serial, or was it the other way around? hmm.

Of corce HIS^ Setup is diffrent, vpc will use the windows drivers for dos, so that might just be your only choice.

I have sucessfully used USB with my dos version software for the E6X. It requires using Virtual PC, and Windows 98. Once I properly configured the COM ports for Virtual PC, worked like a charm.

YES! the Keyspan DOES work if you do it with XP, VirtualPC, and any Pre Win9X version so you can install the adapters drivers, my personal setup that DOES work:

HP Pavilion N5190 Laptop (P3 700mhz)
Windows XP Pro
VirtualPC w/ DOS 7 virtual drive with all haltech DOS software (DOS 6.22 will also be fine)
Keyspan USB-Serial adapter (used for Haltech, as well as for LM-1 WideBand)

If you dont want to go through all of this, just get an old laptop with win9x and a serial port on Ebay, they are dirt cheap.

You would be surprised on the laptops...these people think they are worth alot more than they are...then they jack up the shipping prices

Yes, ive seen that, people give a low price but go insane on the shipping, but there are some good deals still lying around.

Thats how ive gotten my last 2 laptops, good deals in the end.
