second rotor flooded twice in 1 month

so I had my car down for couple weeks. I was driving it around right before I put it up on jack stands to fabricate the v-mount version 2.

I crank it over for the first time in 2-3 weeks, and 2nd rotor is flooded for the second time... I had my air temp disconnected by mistake when I was cranking, but I have no fuel enrichment for air temp anyway--just some timing advance with AIT variations... I had massive backfire due to all the unburnt fuel 2nd rotor is dumping into the manifold. pull the 2nd rotor plugs, and I can smell fuel on the 2nd rotor... I didn't check the other rotors, but judging by their EGT, they should be fine.

when the car is running, it's running as it should. It still has quirks that needs to be tuned out, but I not worried about the overall engine health...

does anyone have any idea why my middle rotor keeps flooding after sitting around for couple weeks? same thing happened when I turned it over for the first time in a long time when I switched over from microtech to haltech.

so to sum up, the car was running ok, I drove around block, then I parked it up on jackstand for v-mount fab, and after 2 -3 weeks of being on jackstand, I crank it over only to find the 2nd rotor flooded again... when the engine is deflooded and running, it's running well which leads me to believe that the injectors are ok and not leaking..? any ideas would be appreciated.

sounds like you have an injector not closing properly.

how old are the injectors and/or have you had them checked recently?

hm.. they are FIC 900cc injectors. bought them brand new couple years ago. never had them "checked".

so you think it's just leaking slowly when the car is off and firing OK when car is on? that does make some sense.. god damn it, I do NOT want to take the manifold off again... any good idea on how to check for this before I start taking things apart?

the only other way would be by placing an injector test strobe on rotor #2 injectors and seeing if they are firing properly and not discharging somehow with the engine off. either way you gotta jumper to the ECU and power or pull the UIM and leak test the injectors.

have you checked to be sure rotor #2 ignition is working during cranking?

a 3rd possibility and hopefully not the case would be possible coolant intrusion fouling spark and causing the flooding. are you sure it is only gas on the spark plugs?

well I think the ignition system is working because the car is running well when it's not flooded... am I thinking about it too simplistically? EGT temps are all the same in all 3 rotors when she was idling after I deflooded the engine last time.... I plan on driving it to california for tune (600mile drive each way), so I just want to make sure things are going to be fine before making the trip... would hate to have the thing flooded at a shady rest stop or something...

if I have to take the manifold off... so be it... any ideas are appreciated if I can investigate any other potential etiologies before I do another tear down..

well I pullled the plugs, and it smells like gas.. the coolant is nice and green... it's just gas as far as I can tell. is there any way to know for sure?

hold the plug to a lighter for about 5 seconds and see if it is still wet after.

if she floods again, I shall try that hehe..

I got this local guy in a small shop doing fuel injector service for $25/injector. he said he can flow match them to 2%. should I have him do this or just send off to FIC?

I am hoping there is some debri holding up one of the solenoid... that makes the most sense to me.

if he is trusted and has good reviews then i don't see why not. the test you need to have focused on is the leakdown test.

YES!!! Leakdown test positive for second rotor primary injector! thanks man! explains everything perfectly.

man this sucks for FIC. Less than a few thousand miles and 2 dyno sessions with max boost of 22psi, and one of 9 already failed.

Is this a fluke or should I just go with ID1050x primary and ID2000 secondary?

nice, thanks again man.

btw, do you know whether FD rx7 ID1050x 14mm fit the d-series 20b block for 3 primaries?

not 100% sure whether I should get other rx7 models or 11mm vs 14mm..

I think I use the FD rx7 14mm ID2000 secondaries for xcessive LIM with xcessive fuel rail.
