Please advise me..What are the minimum hardware items I need to setup and log EGT
I have a E8 ecu an would like to log egt (dual). Could some one direct me what I need to get like thermocouples, 0-5v converter. Also please advise where these items could be obtained, new or used.
Any input welcomed.
Thanks

i use a PLX SM-EGT ... x 2 and a DM6 gauge ( or 2 )
instructions self explanatory
depending on your applications then setup will be different
( as i have one of the inputs tied up for EOMP )
but if you wish all for spare AD channels for use then you may have to repin the narrow 02 feedback wire on pin12 on the 26 pin loom socket to position 13
this will give you an AD1 position and thus 4 input channels
i use
AD2 for EGT1
AD3 for eomp
AD4 for wideband logging
and have a re-pinned AD1 as atm back to spare as have no real need to log both temps atm
( AD1 can be EGT2 but it may have to be logged as a voltage under another name as IIRC the software doesn't agree with EGT2 as a term )
you need to setup for a sample rate that allows a decent onboard log period
1 sample a second will miss everything and is pointless except for bragging it will log for about 5 hrs
10 samples a sec will give you about 30 mins and lots of resolution
and if you put it in loop mode it will overwrite the old file when the memory is full
so you can set it up to record all the time and it should always have the last 30 mins of records
PS
the plx egt have been in there a while and still work
however like all couples are prone at times to moisture getting in the wiring and making moentary shorts that sort themselves out
try and avoid twists when you setup,, and mount into nuts welded onto you exhaust manifold to limit the tip protrusions
if you have a short in the K couple it will be at the PLX plug end and it may pay to slip a little bit of heatshrink over one of the exposed bare ends

I've had great luck with the Haltech TC boxes. The EGT Technologies stuff seems to be popular, but I've had hit and miss success with them. Never tried the PLX stuff, but their reputation is top notch. One of our distributors just picked up PLX, so I may be inclined to try some more of their stuff.

Thank you for your input. I have a couple questions. The re-pin for spare ad 1 can be done on the e8 ecu also? I dont see spare ad1 listed under aux inputs, so how do I choose the naming option?

the magic trick especially for e8 ////
read here and it will show you a method to get pin 13 to run with the self tune
or to assign it as the spare AD1 to do what you wish and thus get something for nothing
post 13 ( fittingly ) should set you straight on what you are doing
