No rpm signal while cranking.

I've got a ps1k plug and play setup from mazdatrix and everything is wired per the instructions. Now when I go to try and start the car it's not showing any rpm or home trigger or miss counts on the laptop, but if I take the Cas out and spin it by hand it shows up on the computer. I took the cap off of the sensor and can see it spinning inside but it seems it's not fast enough to be picked up. Is there a low speed pickup for cranking that I might have wrong?

It sounds like something wrong with your Haltech power source. Could you have it hooked up to the wrong ignition source. Meaning in crank mode, there is no B+ flowing to the CAS but in ignition on position, there is B+.

Hard to explain here, but I mean your ignition key circuit basically. There are two ignition positions, one with power cut off while cranking and one that supplies power during cranking. Make sure your getting power during cranking position.

While that sounds like a possibility, it's a patch loom kit, he didn't do any of the wiring. Watch the status box in the lower left corner of ECU Manager. If it stays blue and says connected while cranking, ECU power is not the issue.

Post your map if you can. Another possibility is the wrong trigger settings.

Have you called Mazdatrix for support?

the haltech stays connected while cranking. ive now replaced the stock cas with the ffe trigger wheel and hall effect sensor and still nothing. ive read that the sensor itself needs to be powered so i checked the harness and the shielded wire from the ecu doesnt provide any power to the sensor. i downloaded the basemap from here dont remember which it was. is there any settings i could have wrong?

try turning up the home trigger gain... and be sure all the ignition setup is ticked for reluctor pickups and for falling edge

Should I be using the reluctor pickup with a hall effect sensor?

Also when I bring up the three counts, home trigger and miss. I get very low numbers like 3 and I did get it to show three rpms once

sounds like you have it rx8 mode

assuming its an FC engine you need to set the start up menu to rotary
and then for trigger use the multi tooth rotary selection ..
then you only have home and trigger ref ..
these should be set up in the ignition setup for reluctor and falling edge

.. and you need to do the timing calibration with fuel pump fuse disconnected

It's a 13bre cosmo engine I do have it set in rx8 mode because I'm using the full function engineering trigger wheel bolted directly to my crank pulley with a hall effect sensor mounted right next to it. I'm really just confused with why it doesnt show any constant rpm. I jumped the 12v wire on the sensor directly off of the fuse box and still got nothing.

my bad, didnt read that bit about the trigger wheel.. yes you should be in hall effect mode, yes you have to usually pull over 12v ( that stays live during cranking ) for the extra wire to power up the hall senders

check first with where you bought the trigger kit from and be sure its not supposed to be fed 5V
( which you should be able to find in the haltech loom )

FFE trigger wheels come with a how to on how to setup the haltech correctly. there is a thread on this in the haltech section.

also, because you have the ffe trigger wheel, you can not use the stock trailing ignitor. you must modify it and use two trailing ignitors.

as far as the ignitors go im using four individual ls2 coils wired directly to the haltech. i did have everything set up the way the ffe instructions explained and still nothing. i tested the red 12v wire from the haltech harness and it didnt have any power going to the hall sensor. After i did that i ran a jumper wire from the fuse box to the sensor so it have power but still wasnt getting any signal. if anyone has any crazy ideas throw them at me I will be able to work on it all weekend.

Time to get out the ohm meter and see where you are losing continuity.

All four wires to the Cas have continuity. The red power supply is putting out about 4.9v I'm stumped I've tried many different base maps just trying to get a trigger signal and none of them work.

The red wire in the trigger and home looms should be 12V.

Have you consulted with Mazdatrix? It's possible the patch loom you received is not wired properly or is simply mislabeled. I've had both issues pop up.
