no plug and play air temp sensor?

the air temp sensor supplied with the haltech is MASSIVE, and as far as i can tell will be too large to tap into the stock location in my 20b elbow. any suggestions? maybe it will fit... but its f-in HUGE. -heath

What ECU are you using? E11v2? You can get any sensor you want, and fit it on there. Theres a thread where i posted an aproximate calibration for the FD/FC coolant and air temp sensors, you may want to give that a try and see how it works, that way you can use your stock stuff.

Here it is.... https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showthread.php?t=715813

yeah i have the e11v2. i was reading that the stock sensors wander in temp range. any suggestions on where best to mount the haltech sensor on a 20b if i go with that route?

how accurate are the stock sensors compared to haltech ones?

Haltech sensors are better.

If you're looking for a smaller sensor, the air temp sensor from a 1ts generation eclipse/talon has a 1/4" NPT threaded body - it uses the same metripack connector as the Haltech sensor. Every sensor I've come across is incredibly linear at least in the 0-100C range, you can calibrate them with a thermometer, stove, ice and an ohmmeter.

What you could do is get an aluminum bung similar to an O2 sensor bung, and weld that onto the intake pipe that reaches the throttle body and thats it.

ok i FINALLY found the tap and drill to install the sensor. the tap was 20 and the bit was 26!

anyway i had one last sensor question. i searched but didnt come up with an answer. so ive replaced the water temperature sensor in back of the waterpump housing. this replaced the stock water temperature sensor that was there before. my question is, can i tap into that signal and send it to my stock FD gauge cluster and have the cluster read normally, or should i tap a new hole in the front of the waterpump housing and put a stock sensor in and connect to my guage. i know the stock gauge is useless but id rather not have a dead gauge on my dash.

thanks again, heath

The stock gauge reads from a different sensor thats near the oil pressure sending unit.

I believe so, that same sender has been in the multiple 12b-re's that I have disassembled.

ah found it! i thought the coolant temp sender was the oil press. sender as mazda left out the o.p.s. on the 20b, stuck an allen bolt in and gave it a nice little spot weld. so now ive got my stock temp gauge back, and lost my oil pressure gauge lol. maybe ill attempt to grind the weld out if it didnt penetrate into the threads which im hoping... otherwise i need to find a new spot for it.

anyway, im diverging from haltech questions. i think im all set on the sensors now. gonna tap the air temp tomorrow

Ive never seen one with a spot weld, all of them just have the allen plug. Are you sure its not some kind of sealant.

yeah its a tiny spot weld. sorry i dont have a better picture its kind of obscured. i was thinking about taking a dremel to it and attempting to grind it down, but if the weld has penetrated the threads then its game over because i dont want to drill it out and risk getting metal shavings in the oil system. i cant believe im the only one with the spot weld... just my luck.

Grind it, you will be fine there is very little risk of damaging the threads because its a tapered thread (BPT).
