need some help with my E8

I just finished getting my E8 all wired up and am going through the pre-starting stuff. leading coil is firing good. trailing 1 isn't firing at all, and trailing 2 is firing good.... ign output 3 is wired to T1, . ign out 4 to T2.
I am getting consistent rpm signal (around 250rpm) and getting trigger and home signals. coil works... why isn't T1 firing?

also, when trying to check the timing, the timing light will not trigger...? the timing light worked fine on my dad's rx-8 and my civic, but it won't work on my FC(yeah, the leading is sparking)? anyone have any ideas about that?

I think the fuel injectors may not be getting a signal as well, but I'll worry about that once I get the ignition all worked out.

any help would be great.

thanks

Are we talking about an FC or FD?

He said FC. What are you fuel and ignition settings like? Maybe you missed something there, since the E8 is a tad more complicated than the E6 series of ECUs.

What base map are you using?

yeah, FC. sorry I didn't make that more clear.

I am using the 2 rotor base map in the haltech library in the tuning software. all the E6K maps I tried to upload were all f'd up once they were imported, so I just decided to stick with haltech's base map.

I checked all my settings several times, and am still checking... but its possible I overlooked something, or have something wrong... is there anything specifically I should look for?

okay, so I just did some testing, and it was actually T1 that was firing and not T2... I dunno if it just switched over night or if I got it wrong...

but I tried using haltech's ign out 2, 3, and 4 on T1 coil, and 3 and 4 made it fire. when I hooked up #2 it made a spark when the key was first turned to the 'on' position but not when cranking... dunno if that matters. lol. but ign outs 3 and 4 are both signaling like they should, so thats good.

I tried all 3 ign outputs on T2 coil, and non of them fired... checked the coil again and it still works... the wiring? I have it wired like hitman's writeup says(except using ign out 3 and 4 since this is the E8)... but 3 was going to pink and 4 going to white on the trailing coil plug... is this still correct for the E8? it seems like a trigger signal would go to the same wire of the ignitor no matter what computer is firing it. if not the wrong wire, then it must be the ignitor?

Go to this post ive got going on in the Haltech Forum, it might help, it might not, but if it does fire correctly, even though the fuel might not be right, you know we're on the right track.

Haltech Forum Base Map Post

Let me know what size injectors you have, so i know what the fuel map needs to be.

cool. thanks. I'll give that map for the E8 for the stock 13bt a try.

I'm running bosch 1600cc secondaries.

I'm thinking its got to be the igniter being the reason the T2 coil isn't firing. everything else seems to be working.... can the igniter go half-bad though? lol.

then if I could just figure out why that timing light isn't working on my FC...

How did you wire the E8 into T1 and T2?
The FC uses a toggle on the stock trailings, and wiring it directly from E8 to T1 and T2 is next to impossible?

ign output #3 was spliced to the pink wire on the coil, and ign output #4 was spliced to the white wire...

oh... after reading that writeup over again, that doesn't sound like its correct for the E8... explains why T1 is firing but T2 isn't.

I can't run the E8 ignition wires straight to the coils can I? how should the E8 be wired up through the stock igniter? can I use the stock igniter?

it was done like this.... (this is not my picture, but my wiring here is the same)

Okay, I'm just staring at the Haltech E8 manual available from Haltech.COM, and it looks like this...
IGN2 = trailing signal
IGN3 = trailing toggle
I dunno what the stock wiring colors are, but you need to just match them up to the wires.
From 1300cc.COM (BDC's E6K write-up)...
Trailing PINK = trailing signal
Trailing WHITE = trailing toggle
So...
IGN2 -> Trailing PINK
IGN3 -> Trailing WHITE

The Haltech E8 needs to be set to 2ROTOR and DISTRIBUTOR in the Ignition set-up.

Also, I would not recommend just splicing into the wires like that.
Cut the wire end off that goes into the rest of the wiring harness and just use the plug end.
You don't know where else the rest of the wiring goes into, and it's just good practice to not just splice into exisiting wiring unless you really need to.
I'm just talking about just the two wires from / to the Haltech E8.
I know the stock tach runs from one of the wires off the trailing ignitor for it's signal, so you don't need to chop the entire plug off!

that wiring(ign 2/3) is how I had it initially. then I read somewhere than ign 3/4 out were the ones I needed... I tried it, and those were the ones sending the signal from the haltech... but this is on a different setting... I think...

set it on distributor? which setting? under ignition mode group, and then spark mode? my choices there are waste spark, or distributor, and your saying I should choose distributor? I don't see a choice for distributor anywhere else...

oh, and as for the splicing of the wires, I wasn't sure, but I saw them spliced in like that in another writeup so it seemed like it was okay. I'll cut the ends off now though.

thanks

botched the wiring.

ig1 --leading
ig2 --trailing
ig3 --toggle

it's like the second to last page in the manual.

Im not sure, but im thinking that the E8 and E11's current firmware/software version doesnt really use the toggle feature, or at least there is no "Ignition Toggle" option in the Auxiliar Options window. So, im guessing you can only run in Direct Fire mode, using Ign 1-4 for each plug. Anybody can correct me if im wrong, but i cant find the toggle options to enable that kind of operation.

Let me know,

Dont we all??

Thanks for that bit of advice on the E8's rotary connections, in the different spark modes.
