MoTec Harness on a Haltech??!!
Okay so im about to buy a Haltech P1000. I have this guy that visits my shop from time to time who we call the "The Drifter". Hes been around shop to shop all over the country and does some testing with Haltech from time to time. Really smart and knowledgeable guy. So were talking about this Haltech and the flying lead that comes with it and doing all the wiring and he suggests using the Racing Beat Motec harness. He says basically its a factory harness has all the sensor connectors and everything pre wired. Basically its an OE harness setup for a Motec. But he says that a Haltech will plug directly into and work fine with no wiring. Has anyone heard of this? If it does work I think this is a great idea. My 15 year old harness is a little fragile to say the least and im worried about connectors breaking so why not just replace the whole thing.

But why ?
if you going to rewire just use the Haltech flying loom kit.
If you want plug and play get the adapter... It plugs straight into the existing loom.
I dont see the advantage of a motec harness... by itself.

I know the connectors are the same. Believe the pinout is very similar. Motec harnesses tend to be very spendy though. There are guys who build Haltech harnesses for stock applications like this. That would remove all doubt about compatibility and I would guess be less expensive.

I spoke with Haltech and they dont have the adapter harness for the 1000 on an FD. They do however offer it for a FC. So I would have to do a flying lead and wire it in which is no big deal. I would just prefer to change out the entire harness and have all new connectors. The Motec harness on Racing Beat is around 360 dollars which isnt that much to me. If I can get a complete new harness that has new connectors and is plug and play with the Haltech I will buy it. Otherwise Ill use the flying lead kit.
The main concern that I have with the Motec harness is wether or not the pinouts match up. Does anyone know where I can get the pinouts for the motec harness?

Yes, kids, its true, if you take an M400/600 wiring diagram you will see that it is almost 98% the same as the E8/E11 pintout, the variation in the new sport boxes are the additional trigger and home (-) wire, and the no longer existent serial connector wires.
But yeah, i've heard that some people buy Haltech harnesses cause they are cheaper than Motec ones.
I would be very interested in seeing what RB actually has as far as these harnesses, anybody got pics or links or info on this?

Yeah the only reason I was considering the Motec over the Haltech was because the rumor was that it was "plug and play" and that it had all the factory terminations for the sensors and such. That would have made it worth the 375.00 price tag.

I guess that my next question is does anyone make a harness for the Haltech P1000 that has all the factory connectors on it. I can make my own from a flying lead but if I can buy instead of wasting time and the price is right I will just go that route.

If Racing Beat sells a Motec Harness that is terminated with all sensors and there's no need for anything else, at that price, to just bolt into an FC, that is a VERY VERY good price!
Anybody got actual pics of this harness?

Ok, i did some google'ing and found this page:
http://www.racingbeat.com/motececu.htm
I think the harness you guys are talking about is the one destined to be used with the M2R motec box for rotaries, this box has an entirely different connector altogether than the M400/600/800, which is the same as E8/E11/Ps1k/2k boxes.
If this is the case, then its no good to any of us. unless you take that and cut off the main motec ECU connector and re pin a set of haltech connectors.

Good call. From reading RB's website it sounds like they're developing harnesses at this time and don't have anything on the shelves. They also say that their first developments will be for 2-rotor PP engines. I'm guessing actual stock replacement harnesses are way down on the list.
"Racing Beat has been using stand-alone engine management systems for the rotary engine since 1984. Currently, we are focusing on a complete package offering for the 2-rotor peripheral port 13B racing engine since we believe this is the most popular application for customers to adapt the Motec system. Over time, we will expand our offerings to include other engine configurations, as demand requires."
