mallory hyfire or summit CDI

Anyone use a mallory hyfire or summit racing CDI with a haltech.

the 2 units are identical digital CDI units with better output specs than the analog msd 6a for half the cost.

Are you going to run three of them?

If not, just install in between ignitor and coil and change nothing on the Haltech.

either 1 or 2, yes after the igniter lead only

just looking to see if anyone has run them, and what the results where.

If you run just one, run them on the leadings.
Unless you're going to go discrete channel into two individual leading, single tower coils?

I've run a Mallory Hy-Fire VI on a customer's FC running off an E6K.
It does the job.

Well, if you have a Haltech, i would just go with LS1 coils, they are proven, cheap and reliable for good power.

I like the Fireball HI-6S..... going to use 3

It has a 2 step rev limiter

20 Degree retard.. adjustable

and it is cheap.... about 140 bucks

I was going to use the 2 step and retard as a anti lag. Look at the wiring diagram

The HI-6S is *NOT* a CDI box.
It just steps up the voltage a little, but it's not a true capacitive discharge.

This is why it's so cheap.
They are comparable to the old MSD 5 series - do they even make these?

I have a set of Ls2 coils, and as it turns out one is defective, the others are questionable. I think they where factory rejects I purchased them on ebay. There is no taking them back.

really there is no point on upgrading the trailing beyond using 2 leading FC ignitors with 2 trail coils. I don't like the toggle feature of the factory trail ignitor. And think its more reliable this way. Ive heard of trail ignitor failures where the ignitor keeps firing but just stops toggling. Being 180 deg out of phase on the trailing is a guaranteed blown motor under load.

I also run my leading this way that is to say I use 2 FC leading ignitors with 2 trailing coils (one each). It halves the duty cycle of the coil's/ignitors and allows more charge time.

On the car you ran the hyfire on did you run it two individual single channel coils like the first gen guys use MSD 6AL's or did you run it to a stock or otherwise dual tower coil?

These are the options I am considering:

1: E8 ign output wasted spark-> single FC leading igniter-> HYFIRE or summit box ->2 single post coils wired together

2: E8 lead ign outputs direct fire-> 2 FC leading igniters - >2 hyfire or summit boxes-> 2 coils for true dirrect fire

as for lead coils I have 2 of the old school huge accell super coils which I may try cause they where free

trail will continue to be E8 trail outputs direct fire->2 FC lead ignitors->2 stock trail coils

Did you even read my post the hyfire is a true Digital CDI the summit box is a re branded hyfire. They are 120 and 130 respectively.

If you have a haltech then you allready have a 2 step built into it.

Nothing fancy...

E6K -> stock leading ignitor -> Hy-Fire VI -> stock dual-tower leading coil
