jumpstarting, crashed haltech and firmware updates

Hope this help someone:

Here is the story,

Worked all night last night up through about 2AM came out to the car and relized that my lights where left on.

I know jump starts are bad, so I hook up to a co workers car and let the battery charge with his car running for about 10 minutes untill he has to leave.

not enough charge to start, so I say **** it and try and jump it anyways.

No start.

I get a ride home and charge the battery through to the morning and return with laptop and batter.

Car won't start, and laptop connects but indicates that the computer is stuck in boot mode with about 5 different errors some of which relate to firmware.

Of course I think the worst that I will need to send the unit back.

just for the hell of it I just returned back with my laptop and a copy of e8 build 29 firmware tonight.

Its fixed, drove home everything normal.

Mine is an E8, and yes everything is working now.

BTW I just spoke to an electronic tech I used to work with He has an E8 on his turbo prelude, and an E11V2 on his corvette. He took the E8 apart to bridge the blown resistor and noticed that the Board is printed with E11v2, so he took the E11 apart to compare them. He says he can make the E8 into an E11.

E8's and E11V2s are basically the same, using the same software, but the main differences are that the E8 has removed drivers to better suit the 4cyl/Rotary market, and passing the saving on to the end user.... i/e: YOU.

Glad you have everything worked out...

Id like to see someone convert an E8 to an E11 - i would particularly like to see how you reprogram the PLD for E8 as apposed to E11.....

If you load E11 firmware onto an E8, it will think its an E11, I would assume that if you load E8 firmware onto an E11 then it will think its an E8

Ok, so what's the actual hard fact here? Were my statements wrong in that other post, or its not as simple as a firmware update with E11 stuff, and installing (if you could) the necesary drivers/hardware/components that the E8 is missing?

Of course we're all aware that this would be a Warranty NO NO if anybody did try it.

Claudio I think you where right in your original post, I am assuming from the way you wrote that you tried it (the firmware swap)?

What would be cool is if haltech could offer an upgrade from E8 to E11, for maybee slightly more than the difference in cost between the 2 (assuming it would be profitable for them). That way if you switched vehicles or engines and wanted to run a 20B (or fully sequential V8) and allready had an E8 you wouldn't need to go through the trouble of selling it to buy an E11.
