Angry I want to shoot my AFM...how to justify going standalone?

I'm fighting a very very annoying battle with my car....running lean pretty much under any type of load and I'm 95% certain its an electrical problem with one of the factory sensors...

I'm wondering if I go standalone will I decrease the amount of 'aggravating' problems this car gives me or will things only get worse?

My point is, anybody who has gone standalone (preferably haltech) have you experienced more or less problems with diagnosing your car?

I had a microtech and loved it. no problems out of it ever. However, you will have to man up and pay someone to tune your car if you do go standalone. Ps, I have a Megasquirt on the car now and as long as they are built right they work very well too, expecially if you are on a budgettt....

I had a very similar issue which ended up being a leak between the maf and the turbo. crack in the TID or maf loose?

As eluded to above, if the system is installed correctly and properly tuned the car should run as well, or better than stock, and be just as reliable. A standalone is generally easier to trouble shoot if there is a problem since there are fewer sensors and sub-systems involved. All that said, if you end up with a crappy install and tune, you're probably in a worse situation than you are now.

See my only justification for using a standalone would be that it eliminates the AFM...I would love to upgrade to an rtek 2.1 in hopes that one day in the near future they make an upgrade that would rid me of that thing...we'll see

the key is your wiring condition , the main reason i went standalone is my wiring in my TII was old hard and oxidized.

So from an electrical point of view you will be chasing got as it could be a broken line , lack of continuity on one of the sensor wires who knows.

So I am starting with a new harness with all the crimps made by me so at lease we could eliminate some variables.

So if your wiring is suspect you can get a new harness and or go standlaone so you can review every conection.

Im done "hoping" that rtek will have afm delete. Honostly it seems like for only a couple hundred more you can go haltech. Trying to absorb as much as I can about it now.

its easy dude. just a handful of wires to connect, and you are DONE.

took a great deal of courage to step in and do it all myself, but wouldnt ya know, the car makes more hp than it could have with the stock ****.

look on the bright side, the harness will use standard gm sensors that are cheap as **** to buy. no more spending a hundred or so on a new tps. really? thats dumb.
