probably accurate 95% of the time. I have an ECU only because I actually got my stolen unit back from the theives. I had my E6K stolen when my house was robbed a couple years ago. the cops actually caught the two 15 year olds who ripped me off and as part of their probation they had to pay restitution. since they were minors the parents were responsible for the payments and low and behold after a couple payments one of the fathers "found" my stolen property accidentally. so I now have the unit I bought to replace my stolen unit and the original, so I also have an E6K without a harness. When buying a unit without the harness I would hope you asked some questions about were the harness was and were happy with the answers. just because the ECU was installed on a WRX doesn't mean the harness(and the manual and software) won't work for an RX7. remember these units are stand alone. that means they are not specific to any one vehicle or application. be careful buying used parts especially ones missing vital pieces.

This is from Motec, but it covers the same issue:

It's not about being smart or dumb, it's about being educated.

this is a great idea I wish Haltech had a resource for this type of problem. maybe even a unique password to access the ECU. In my case I think the punks that stole my ECU thought it was a piece of car stereo gear and didn't know what they had.

dumb is "buying" a ecu, and not having the slightest sense of what to do with it. Let me guess, you are going to install it yourself too.

Nobody said that you stole it, just that it is probably stolen.

Which WRX forum did you buy it from, and who did you buy it from?

Well, I hope you got a good deal on it. The wiring and sensors you'll need to complete the package will run you between $300 and $400. It depends on exactly what you need to make it all work. Most (legit) dealers will only cut a break to their customers on replacement parts like this. Any one of them has the right to sell the pieces you need for whatever they wish, because in most cases where a person needs everything BUT the ECU, it's because it's stolen.
