Fellow rotorheads, please help make Haltech's better for us!
As we know, the trigger setup options for us are a little bit restrictive. The hardware can easily support more freedom for us, so we need to urge them to make the simple change in the next software update for us.
Please help us all out and email scott@haltech.com and tell him that you'd like to be able to have more flexibility with your trigger setup in your rotary powered, Haltech run car.

To those with new Haltechs:
Just to clear things up on the Haltech issue. The Sprint RE, PS 1000/2000 DOES support a two rotor with our current 36 tooth renesis wheel so there is no issue there. The issue is that it does NOT support a 3 rotor with anything other than stock trigger (CAS). The code is already written for 36-1, 36-2, 60-1, 60-2 wheels and the option is available for selection on rotary engines (ps1k/2k) but haltech lists those wheel combos as being for piston engines only. All they have to do is change it to half cycle instead of full cycle and it will work with rotaries. It's really a simple fix in the software they just have to have a reason to do it (customers).
We would have no problem sending them a trigger kit that already has all of the timing (teeth/home placement, etc) sorted out if they need some sort of reassurance or proof.. So if enough emails are sent to haltech saying to enable motronic (36-2, 60-2) wheels as a rotary option they can just update the software and be done with it (thats the hope anyway)..

I've asked for Motrinic support for years. I've not gotten much more than someone telling me why I don't need it. I agree whole heartedly, but I think you're in for an up hill battle.
On the subject of the 3-rotor with Renesis trigger; I see in the specs for the Full Function trigger wheel that it's inferred Haltech supports the Renesis wheel with the 3-rotor. This, in fact, is not supported. I've spoken with them about this and have been told it simply won't work due to the location of the missing teeth coinciding with a spark event. Sounded plausible to me. Do you guys have any direct experience with another system to refute this?

yeah i've dealt with them in the past and you're correct they always want to sell you on why you don't need it instead of why they dont want to update their software.
Also sorry if it reads weird but it wasn't inferred that Platinum stuff supports 3 rotor AND a renesis wheel, its in the general details that we have kits for 3 rotors. The ecu compatibility shows ecu's that work with one of our kits, not necessarily a renesis wheel/haltech. We'd prefer to use better designed wheels for everything but haltech is being silly considering the code is already written for it, just needs to be changed to half cycle. Why would they list a motronic wheel as piston specific? silly.
Haltech is correct about the renesis wheel having a trigger event (techincally home event) during a firing event on a 3 rotor. You would not want that wheel on your expensive 20B to say the least.. However we have a 36-2 and 60-2 that rock on 20B's.

So are you saying you currently can't use the Fd's pickup on the 20b with the newer model ecu's? If that's the case, I'll hold off upgrading till they get that fixed. That's how I have my 20b currently set-up, but with an E11.

The FD crank trigger and Cosmo CAS are identical in respect to the signal they produce. The FD crank trigger will work with the 20B just fine.
Hello Ryan,
Crank triggering seems to be the buzzword this week in the Rotary fraternity!
The best solution for your setup would be using the Series 6 setup (12+1 on the water pump pulley). Setting up a custom "missing tooth" trigger is a poor idea most of the time on a rotary because of the invalid missing tooth location possibilities. We would prefer not to allow this option as it will result in difficulty for most users. I recommend the RX8 trigger disk on a 2 rotor and the 12+1 on a 3 or 4 rotor.
Please let me know if this is a suitable solution for you,
If there is anything else we can do to help, please let me know.
Kind Regards,

Looks like Scott (or whole Haltech crew) has clear idea on whats good and whats not good to have in the options of the software..
I got pretty much similar answer when i asked for closed loop EWP controll (ie...its not good option, it would confuse users and it will not be there.....)

Hi Ryan,
You do put forward a good argument. And I do understand that the Mazdaspeed engine actually comes with a Motronic trigger as standard. I am going to put forward that we support this Mazdaspeed trigger (36-1), however please realize that this will take time, and as much I like rotaries is not going to be our first priority. We can both agree that we have to address each request on its urgency and effect on the more common user.
When there is any information on this I will let you know,
There is no hack you can do to allow your ECU to work with this trigger type - Please dont try!
If there is anything else we can do to help, please let me know.

such concern! Looks like you've made some kind of small progress here.

I have added the Issue number to this mail for you, so you know its documented. Dont quote me but I will try and have it in the 1.10 version of software/firmware which had no due date as yet, however I would expect 3-6 months depending on other feature progress.
I will also be battling to figure out a way to use the RX8 trigger disk to run a 3 rotor, as I feel this is the best solution for all rotary applications. Reason being I have never seen much luck with aftermarket Motronic trigger systems - Mainly due to trigger disk run out from poor centering on the pulley.
When there is something available to play with you will be the first to know,

Thanks for the constructive forum post guys.
This issue has been listed and is to be worked on as it gets to the top of the feature request list.
Remember Haltech supports people in more than 50 countries each with specific needs that are important to each field of racing, as well as general technical support (Including many of you on this forum who always receive as much support as you request).
I have received a very small amount of mail on this topic (Considering this forum post I would have expected a lot more) and would like to put some numbers toward my boss.
If each of you who have a need for this feature could please send me a simple e-mail with:
Your Engine type
Your ECU type
Your ECU serial Number
Your Ignition type (Wasted Spark or Direct fire)
I can put together a reasonable case to have this feature jump the cue of other features with higher demand, or trigger types of engines that are not currently supported at all.

Ps. Please do not private message me on this forum, as you could imagine I am a member on several Piston/Rotary/Drag/Rally/Circuit/Marine/Aero/Stationary/experimental/education/bio/gas forums - It would take up most of my day answering private forum messages and I wouldn't be able to get any of the development done!

It sounds like my situation is the same is thewird's.
