FB GSL-SE Haltech - is it possible to eliminate certain emissions components?

As the title states - this just popped into my head while driving home from work (might be watching too much MCM lol). I know it would be a difficult project, but wondering if it is possible to eliminate unneeded emissions equipment or at least replace it with something more commonly available (ie: rats nest, solenoids, idle control variable resistor, air meter, old leaky throttle body, etc). Only a thought now as I have another project.

Yes, you just need a few sensors to make it work. Air Temp, Coolant Temp, replace the MAF with a MAP sensor. Hooking up the ignition will be tricky, and you won't have as much control with a distributor as direct fire and a crank sensor, but you can remove all the rats nest. You'll still need the throttle body, but from what Atkins told me, you can replace the intake manifold for a newer FC NA manifold. I can't remember which, but I think it was the S5. Please chime in if I'm wrong with any of this info.

Being that here dyno and gas cap emissions are still required, are there components that can be updated or merged? Don't want a dedicated track car because it's mostly original, just something more reliable.

Early stages for install. Yes the six port rx7 intakes fit. I shared as this is not too far removed from your post. I would think if you need emissions including air pump and access valve, you could replace the SE model ACV with one from a 12a and use the Haltech to control the solenoid on the valve. Or could one bypass that and get a modern 3way metal core cat?

GSL-SE engine.

Elite 750 with wide band controller

Loose wires and S4 intake with CAS.

As your car is over 25 years old, shouldn't you be exempt from all the emissions requirements? As sixstring4as said, you only need a handful of sensors and functions to actually run the car. In my opinion, when it comes to rotary cars the more that you can simplify the system and the more unnecessary stuff you can eliminate the more reliable the car becomes!

Let me know if you need any help getting the haltech wired up or a basemap setup for your car.

i think you can update the idle control stuff to the FC BAC valve, which is just a solenoid. the air pump and ACV needs the two solenoids to run it. the more modern air injection might be the Rx8 air pump and ACV

I wish lol. Still require emissions on cars '67 and up. Would love to ditch everything possible, but I don't live in an exempt area. Less is better!

Do you have any more info on this? I've heard of the air meter from the S4 or 5 being used, but not much besides that. Would it be possible to swap to a later series upper manifold and throttle body too? I'd consider a 4 port swap for more options, but that's more $$$. Just aiming for a resto mod sort of deal I guess? Still learning, so any advice is great lol.

Sad to see no real support for FB's, I wish Mazda would start producing parts again like Nissan is with older Skylines.

Mazda never stopped making parts.... i'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish, but 2 solenoids and an air pump isn't very complicated, and doesn't take much to run... the GSL-SE idle control is a good candidate for an upgrade though
