tell me about the dang ol' GSL-SE rats nest

I've searched a bit but couldn't find any conclusive info on removing or reducing the rats nest on a SE. I've already removed the air pump and ACV, got a RB header, etc. Now I am cleaning the engine and need to remove the rats nest to do so. So, what parts of the dang thing do I need to retain the functionality of the car, say in the AirCon, or vaccum advance for the distributor, or any other things that the lil' rodent lair provides? I'm a little intimidated by it now, but I know it will be cake compared to when I try to reassemble my OMP!

right on.

Leave the rats nest alone if you plan on keeping the injection in the GSL-SE. That's my 2 cents

the gsl-se has 4 solenoids under the intake. 2 of them (vent/vac) control the idle, you need these, i forget what the other 2 do, one is the fuel pressure and the other is what, vacuum advance? just take the whole thing off as one unit and put it back as one unit

OK, I was under the impression that some of it could be reduced, but your suggestion is a far simpler approach. I'll probably just do that.

Right on.

You could remove all of them, if you really wanted to. But I don't think it's worth it. I would just lift the rail, as j9fd3s mentioned.

There are a few thoughts on the subject, including mine, here:
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=138523
When I said in that thread: "Some have advanced the vacuum and left the vacuum line disconnected" regarding the advance solenoid, I meant advancing the timing of course. (Don't know how to advance the vacuum, personally...)
I didn't receive e-mail notification of a new post to that thread (not unusual), or I would have mentioned to Rx7carl (Banana Man ! ) that the solenoids are, indeed, all different.

In case you missed it, I had posted something that may help you follow the vacuum line diagram when re-installing the solenoid rail here:
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=147573
If you had seen it (and/or were not interested), sorry for the repetition.

John.

P.S. : I just checked your site: nice job!

Well I'm now convinced to leave the rats nest in place. Great vaccuum line diagram BTW! I am definitely going to save that one...that will come in handy when I hook everything up in a weekend or two.

Thanks for the kind words on the website...I'm going to work on it now.

Right on.

I don't know much about your rats nest, but I kid you not when I say that when I opened up the hood on my Rex after she'd been sitting for 4 years, there was an ACTUAL small rat's nest down next to the intake assembly! yuck!

Anyone have any info on Engine Shampooing or stuff like that to get your engine to a car-show shine?

I'm just using soap and water, some Simple Green, cheap wire brushes and some rags. And a lot of elbow grease.

Check it out:

EDIT: I forgot to say Right on!

Re: engine cleaning- You can rent a hi/lo pressure steam cleaner but if you do make sure you start at lowest temp and raise just enough to get loose 'gunk' off. Start too high and paint will peel right off. (Made that mistake on an old tractor once)
