e6x questions timing during free rev.

Ok. I have a e6x with halwin 1.26.

I took it to orlando to some guy that claimed he tuned haltechs. Long story short.

He complained about the timing shooting way up during free revs. THis is normal since the computer is load vs rpm right? No load = a lot of timing, check? THis is what i need to understand.

The guy is a microtech tuner. he popped my motor on the dyno because he ended up setting my timing flat(locked) because he didnt know use the timing on hatechs.....

Even a Microtech, all ECUs, will advance timing when it's free revved, if it's setup properly.

the no load, high rpm area of the map is where you generally advance the most.. you taper it down as load goes up and as RPM goes down. damn that is basic ****. that really pisses me off when people BS about what they know and their abilities, and you probably could have tuned it better yourself

Explain to me why most microtech tuners cant apply that to a haltech if they work the same.

One other thing. I forget where this setting is. But there was a window that the "tuner" was showing me where you could choose the max amount of timing it would allow. HE would set it. Apply it. Free rev the engine and it would go past the given timing. HE would then open the same window and the timing was back to default...
I saw this with my own eyes. Was wondering if its the halwain 1.26 or what.

I didnt sign anything by the way.

What sort of timing should you see during free revs. The "tuner" might of been going WOT to about 6k on these free revs.

i know its a lot to extrapolate, but this is what my map looks like. ignore the stuff above 8k rpms as i didnt use that portion of the timing map.

if the timing was locked, what timing was it locked at and how much boost was the car running? did the engine just blow by free revving? under no load i've set timing up to 45 degrees depending on rpm. what he was showing you was the quick timing setup. he should've locked timing at -5 degrees then check timing mark on pulley given this is a 2nd gen engine. just my 2 cents as i'm no genius here.

the stock FC hardware (CAS+ ECU) is capable of doing 48 degrees before TDC. it would only do timing like that at high RPM with no load though.

with any ecu, but especially the haltech you need to check that all of your settings are correct, by zeroing the timing, and then its also a good idea to check timing on ALL of the plugs, and then to make sure that when the map says 10 degrees, that its also 10 degrees at the engine.

i had zerod the timing as it was explained to me by several people on the forum. The tuner then had said it was way off and turned it all the way to one side. THis was a stock engine. IDK what he was doing.

From what you are saying, it sounds like he botched it all big time. Only thing to do now is rebuild it and find someone else. If you're anywhere within shouting distance of Miami, you should have Crispeed @ AWD set it up for you. Not a better Haltech man around.
