Able to make connexion, butnot to keep!
I have been able to make a partial connection to haltech and the bar starts to fill up, and then it says reconnect haltech. A forum member sent me a fix for the graphics problems i have been having, and it allowed me to make a temporary partial connection to haltech. Anybody have any idea what is going on? Should I call haltech usa?

Sudz7,
Your best bet, rather than calling, is to FAX them a clear, detailed description of what's going wrong with your car. Then, follow that up with a phone call or e'mail later that same day. Haltech USA has only two people at the moment, and only one of them can answer technical questions. It might help if you check with whoever you bought your system from first, as this really IS their job to fix for you.
Dell (Haltech technical support) is a good guy, but understand that he hasn't got ALL the answers to the hows and whys of this computer won't connect to Haltech, etc. He can tell you what to look for and how to correct common problems. Don't be angry though if somebody can't give you an easy answer, though. If you need any help, shoot me an e'mail or PM. I'm pretty tight with those guys, and it wouldn't hurt your cause if they knew it was something I'm aware of.

If you are still using XP as the operating system this is your problem. find, borrow, steal, or buy an old copy of DOS 6.0 or win95 install on old slow computer/laptop and problems will be solved. the early haltech software is DOS and the XP DOS simulator just doesn't work. I have found several items that I own that are not XP compatible. Haltech E6k and a small temperature recorder I have neither can be downloaded with XP. If I use my old laptop with win95 both devices work fine. the software for each of these will run in XP, but I cannot communicate with the devices. I your in the Los Angeles area I will let you use my laptop to check your ECU if you can't borrow one.

But it starts to make a connection, like half way then it stops. And when the ecu turns on it clicks right? Well about 10 seconds after it turns on it clicks again and I lose connection. But it clicks again when I remove power from the haltech. Grrr..

the click is the fuel pump relay and is normal when the ECU is powered up it starts the fuel pump and runs it for a few seconds and turns it off if the engine is not running. find a computer with the correct operating system and your problem will be solved.
