I just wanted to chime in and say that these are really quality pieces. I have had a set on my car since 08.

Exclamation Update from Widefoot Racing

Hi $lacker (and everyone else!),

Progress is finally happening (again!). I was cutting blanks last week when the spindle of my smaller VMC decided it wanted to take a vacation. It spat the cutter out (nice big ~$400 carbide endmill destroyed), ruined the toolholder (only $200), and burned the inside of the spindle.

I went into recover mode and for the last week I've been prepping the larger mill, including a fun cleanup and replenishment of the coolant sump. A the same time I've been checking into my options for getting the smaller machine fixed.

Today was a turning point, as the first of the "moved" parts have been run in the big machine. I'm still in roughing mode, and the program needs to be tweaked a tiny bit, but I'm now confident that I'll be in full production by this (Tuesday) afternoon. I need to do the roughing on all the blanks, then see how I can start batch finishing so I can get some sets out asap. Will update when that starts.

And BTW, the tool and holder are the cheap part of the fix, a replacement spindle will be on the order of $2500 on the low end. I keep asking myself why I didn't become an accountant...

Thanks all,

David

Hi all,
After weekend of install and track testing, I HIGHLY recommend you get the extensions with the mounts. It put my radiator and intercooler in better position, prevented any rubbing of the steering arm on the tr-point sway bar, and perhaps best of all, returned the bar to level when on the ground, which I think is optimum for leverage and congruence w/ the suspension movement.

Pete, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "extensions"? I've just heard mention of mounts and brass bushings. Can you clarify, or better yet, show us a pic of what you're talking about?

Thx!

Hi Peter,
Glad the spacers worked out for you! For those with 3pc sway bars, they're probably a good idea given that most of the 3pc designs seem to not offer the same clearance to the other suspension elements that the single piece (those that follow the OEM design) have. As such, returning the bar to stock height makes sense.

For those with OEM style bars, I've rarely heard of someone having a problem with the mount design raising the bar. I designed that aspect of the mount to prevent impact damage (as some folks had suffered) when running a lowered car. The shorter mount also puts less leverage and strain of the chassis mount area, which is another weak area of the 3rd gen (of course, the built-in clamping brace contributes a lot to protecting the chassis too).

For those that decide they want stock mounting heights for their bars (single or three piece) just let me know when you're contacted during the "ready for purchase" announcement.

Thanks,
David

'Nother update from Widefoot Racing

Hi all,
I'm knocking on wood as I type this, but roughing is going well, I've got about 40% of the blanks cut. I'm making enough that unless the number of interested folks skyrockets (get it - almost 7/4!) there will be plenty of mounts to go around. Like I mentioned earlier, the bronze bushing adapters will take a little longer as I want to test a few options on the new versions.

I may also decide to make them long enough to bring the bar close to stock height, as that will remove the need for spacers and make for a cleaner installation. Please let me know your opinion on this - are spacers the way to go (adjust height to suit), or spacer-less (lighter, cleaner looking)?

If 1) speedway-style sway bars like Tri-Point's need to be mounted closer to the stock location to avoid clearance issues and 2) the bronze bushing adapters are only used for this sway bar style, lengthening the bronze bushing mount would seem a preferred.

Of course, the guys with engine swaps may need the spacer to run a factory-style sway bar so you may end up making the spacer anyway. But I definitely like the idea of two pieces (sway bar mount and bushing adapter) as opposed to three (sway bar mount, bushing adapter, and spacer).

Hey David, I'd personally vote for spacerless and closer to "stock" height. Thx
