I totally agree, as much fun as HIDs are, the small profile LEDs in Low and High beam will be lighter and look better (provided the light output is on par with HIDs or close to it!

Great job man!

How will this affect the price. Kind of sucks that the light units I bought light units for this years ago will be obsolete

LEDs will be cool though.

Well... technically they won't be obsolete. They would still fit.

There would just be another option.

As for price - believe it or not - going this route will actually be about the same as the lamps/ballast option. Yet another reason we pushed ahead with it.

Whaddya know!

I was able to pick up the brackets for the new lo beam lamps yesterday and get them test fitted. HUGE step forward.

It still needs a little work - but proof of concept is complete. Clearance issues are completely eliminated.

Next step is to fine tune the thickness of the bracket so it positions the lamp in the shroud perfectly. I'm also working on a surround for the lamp similar to the one on the Hella lamp.

^ Very nice looking. What are the specs on the LED low beam? Who makes the unit?

The low beams are 30W with 2000 lumen output per lamp using 3x Phillips ZES 5W LEDs.

I'll get beam pattern info and installed pics shortly.

^ Hey Garage Alpha! Keep up the good work on this. I am sure it will result in a quality product, like your other FD goodies.

I love an LED option and agree, it will make the kit more updated. The issue I have always had with aftermarket LED options is the ability of the light to have a proper "throw" in width and distance. I must admit, I am a bit wary of the Oracle LED lamp you've found. They have no throw pattern for the assembly, other than a generic one:

This comes straight from the manufacturer so, unfortunately, we don't know if the low beam will perform as needed. It might or might not and they are unable to provide more specs.

Here is another option for you, the Hella 60mm Projector LED Headlamp Module: https://www.rallylights.com/hella-60...998670037.html

It's a sealed beam unit like the Oracle one, but the big difference is Hella provides a beam pattern, so you can be confident that the solution will work for the light set.

While it appears that the depth of the Hella LED unit is just a bit shorter when measured by the back section or the part that attaches to the mount and back, you'd have plenty of room to move these forward in the bracket as the overall length of the LED unit is about 1/2 (3.3 inches versus 6 inches) of that of the projector assembly.

The cost of the Hella is around 2X of the Oracle unit, but still very reasonable as it is a little less than the Hella 50mm halogen projector and of course, way less than the Hella 50mm HID units. Lastly, true Xenon HID units, like the ones offered by Hella, outperform both LED and halogen units, with the LED units coming in second.

Something to think about.

Nice find! These must be really new - I don't even see them on Hella's site. I'll get a set ordered and play with them.

Obviously the enemy of progress is perfection. We can redesign the kit every time a new lamp comes out - but then we'd never release anything!

I know I am itching to get a set on my personal car, as are others. But I'll get some of these and see how they compare!

I'll also get beam patterns from the original LEDs posted ASAP.

I was writing up a nice progress post, but since it's out there, let's get to it!

So building off our last update, the bracket has evolved into a one piece bracket/surround for the updated lamps which mimics the original Hella design. Low beams are positioned at the identical position as the Hellas lamps and fill the ABS shroud perfectly.

The next step is to mount these to a car and make sure we didn't overlook anything. But so far, so good. That'll also give us a chance to get you some light output shots and fine tune anything that needs fine tuning.

We're getting there folks. Thanks for hanging in there!

The first LED set is already sent out to our test fitter. The low beam was a direct swap and we're currently awaiting some light output shots.

Any idea what the final pricing will be for the LED option? These stock halogen lights are terrible.

No totally relating to the sleepy eye kit, but these rubber guards were mentioned earlier in the thread

FD01-51-SE1A (right protector)
FD01-51-SE2A (left protector)

Does anyone know where to get them from? The right hand side seems to be discontinued but hoping someone out there may have one or know where to get one (or maybe Garage Alpha will make some )
