How does the '94 textured map lid hold up in a torture test?

How would anyone know without testing? Since the texture is a paint it's a legitimate question.

exactly, its just paint, so its the same lid with texture = just as stong

all order shipped today- you can find your tracking numbers by login into paypal and viewing the transaction (except orders to canada and if i had to pay in person)

PS. ever buy a part and you're excited to install it only to find out its a damn allen key head?? (and everyone knows its near impossible to find the right allen key) Well no worries, we got you covered!!! open the package slowly as the screw pin and allen key are included behind the hang tag

We know it's the same lid. My question was with regard to how well the textured paint will hold up? It's looks like a great product. I'd just like some reassurance on the finish, is all. :-)

Thats a good question... I personally believe it will hold up great. but thats my biased opinion lol (but seriously I cant see it wearing out)

but besides waiting a few years to tell, If you have and "test" ideas, id be more then willing to test and demonstrate....

would a buffing wheel on the surface illustrate that well enough for you? Assuming the only "Wear" the lid would have is the contact of your arm and a buffing wheels spinning at xxxxx rpm kinda simulates "a friction rub" ??? lol idk

The buffing wheel idea may be a good short term test but, otherwise, I'd take your word for it. Long term, body oils and sweat from resting our arms on the lid will most likely affect the paint. Sweat, especially, has acidic like properties.

There's certainly no question about the strength of these units, though!

I don't understand what you find so amusing? My statement regarding the effects of body oil and sweat on paint are legitimate. Sooner, rather than later, anyone who purchases your textured map lid is likely going to have to repaint it. My only intention in raising the issue, which I now regret, was to be helpful.

Whoops! Didn't mean to come off like that, the oils was a good point, I was just making a joke about testing them out as I don't know where to begin testing that. It is a very valid point.

I'm not sure how you would perform a test like that other than those that buy them now coming back in a few years and testifying as to how they held up.

Understood. Admittedly, I don't have anything better to offer in the way of a test other than the test of time, which has already been suggested. Since most of us don't drive our FD's everyday and don't abuse them, it may not be much of an issue after all.

Received mine today: awesome product, but even better packing! I forgot about the goodie bag so I let my 8 yr old daughter open it. Needless to say , gum and bubble stuff, huge win! Now she wants me to order everything you have . Again, job well done!

Thank you,
Steven

I just received mine as well. Packaging is awesome and I too made my niece's day.

Quality of the part is great. I have a good map lid and was buying this as a future part. But after seeing it, I'm mounting it and putting the oem in storage. Mine is going to require drilling the recessed hole out just a tad to fit, but that's a 5 sec job.

Top notch!

I received mine today and had to drill mine out also, 5 seconds worth. It fits well, definitely more durable, and the cracked lid issue is resolved. The cam improvement is another plus.

Thanks Benny...I love the packaging.

Haha Brian,

You crack me up! Your consideration and humor is awesome! The super feminine bag for the sticker, Bubble yum bubblegum (? haven't had this since I was like 5!), and to top it off... actual bubbles! Haha hilarious man, appreciate the kind considerate thought and effort you went to go buy all this stuff at the party store.

Like many have stated, the left hole for the peg is a bit small, perhaps for future designs a bit larger for that opening would be easier for those who are a bit technically inclined

Thanks again, look forward to any other products! My wish list is a Re-Amemiya style gauge pod that lines up with the opening lines of the blinker and windshield wiper controls and actually clips in to the bottom column cover!

Scratch that. It just came in today. A lot heavier than I expected. Feels super strong. If only the rest of my plastics were this quality. I just ran out of gum this morning to so perfect timing.

Dang, thanks for the heads up, I'll have to re-check my drill depth stop, sorry for the inconvience

I'm actually dealing with this problem now. I got a Pettit gauge pod and cut the sides off, then I'm going to mold it to the top of a stock one. However, I'd much rather Benny made this next. Seems like a good follow up project lol.
