im not worried about the fine finish yet, my father in law owns a body shop (they do incredible work) and will help me with that.

trust me when i say, there is no way these will be less than perfect.

I looked at the pics and can't figure it out. Is that an inverted mold? Maybe it's the angle of the picture. I can't figure out if it bubbles up like C-West or if it's more like RE-A. I believe there were kits for the Corvette back when they had pop up head lights and the new models with HID came out. If so, that would be the company to make them.

it is not inverted, this is the shape you will see when it is installed on your car. just without the color of your car (assuming your fd isn't pink, lol).

as far as a comparison to other kits, its got some c-west as well as some re-a, while being completely different. let me elaborate...

the c-west you will see is how the lens and the shroud mount to a bracket that is mounted to the car. also the construction style of the shroud is kind of similar (aside from the obvious style difference).

the similarities to the RE-A kit are as follows (not to be confused with the EVO-R kit). the lens on my kit will follow the stock headlight cover curvature which the way i understand the RE-A kit does also (ive seen the EVO-R kit in person, and the lens does have a slightly greater than stock "bubble" obviously not that of the C-West though). also like the RE-A the lens is attached with mechanical fasteners (screws in the case of RE-A, nuts and bolts in mine) (the EVO-R uses an adhesive (silicone i believe)). Unlike the RE-A the fasteners are invisible with the hood closed.
Also like the RE-A kit, my modules are fastened to a steel bracket and the bracket to the core support (the EVO-R light modules are screwed to the bucket). i like this approach as it feels far sturdier than the C-West approach which attaches the lights to a fairly thin fiberglass bucket.

those are all mere similarities as i have designed everything from scratch (light modules aside) and was simply inspired by the kit. the light modules i am using are much higher quality than all 3 and provide much better lighting with the base kit, even when compared to the upgraded versions of the other kits. plus i am able to offer a true HID option where the others are merely a plug & play kit in a halogen housing (illegal for road use, fyi).
also as if it needed to be said, my design of the shroud (visible part) is much more complex than any of the other 3 kits (there are several other kits out there that are a bit more complex appearance wise (still less than mine, in my opinion) but they have other drawbacks.

there are a few out there for the c5 vette that i am familiar with. the more popular option being the DEPO lights they are more similar to the C-West. (http://www.andysautosport.com/chevro...option_racing/ same design, different brand (i guess)).

there is also a guy that went a similar route to me for the c5 but we took a fairly different approach, his are far more simple than mine (and imo not nearly refined enough).

i would guess you are referring to the depo style as far as contacting the company. all of my brackets are laser cut by a local shop, and the shrouds will be made by shine auto. based on the work ive seen from shine, i am very excited to have them making them. i will be making the lenses, which are not very difficult.

trust me when i say i have put the same effort in to planning the manufacturing as i have with the rest of the project.

Very excited about this. Dan is obviously a very well researched individual and I think the design is fantastic. A great product is inevitable. I look forward to the 'final' post

james got set back, but will be here monday. at which point we should make great progress yet again.

also im almost completed my plans for my vacuum former. and while overall it is a pretty simple design i want it to last a long time, so it needs to be sturdy.

what material are you planning on making these from?
that is a tough piece to make from fiberglass, would require a multi piece mold and even that would be a tough one to make

they will be fiberglass, this piece can be made with a 2-3 part mold. shine auto will be making them.

you can see the driver side shroud on the right, receiving some attention.

haha, no prob. it took me a sec, i was like that looks super familiar, then it hit me, duh! lol.

but yeah, the project took some good steps this week. after having the first side pretty much done, im able to measure everything and redo it. soe rather than shaping it all from scratch i just copy it, and mirror it.

i was feeling a bit discouraged to be honest before starting it this week. the reason being is that the passenger side seemed so far off, like it would never be done. but we got it looking really good! still needs work, but is soooooo much closer than before! kinda gave me new life.

i also have what i believe is the final design for my vacuum forming machine. when i get the money i will start practicing vacuum forming.
