street or dynos don't really stress the coils but high rpm for prolonged periods is another story.

I got a set since everybody praises them (hype train) but I did some more reading and found out we're getting the leading coils to about 90% duty cycle (60% in direct fire) at 8000 rpm and the trailings to 60% at the most recommended settings.

I worry about burning leading coils during a track session in high rpm boost and maybe losing the engine! Comments?
These coils are very robust and you're running within the designed safety margin. They're also mounted in a relatively cool location of the engine bay which makes matters more favorable. Obviously there are limits to duty cycle like on any piece of hardware however, how much time are you actually spending at 8000rpm's without any engine speed reduction? Even then, even with waste spark you're still within the accepted operating envelope, but the longer you spend close to the limit the lower the life expectancy of the coils will be. Aside from one instance of vastly incorrect dwell time settings we haven't had any customers kill a coil. In the unlikely even of that happening they are also relatively cheap to swap out. Unlike leaning out you wont blow your motor if you lose a coil, however if you've got a cat it likely won't be happy for long with the extra fuel

I have been reading threads regarding the dwell settings with the PowerFC.

You noted earlier that
"Stock configuration - Dwell increases with RPM"
"AEM Recommendation - Dwell Decreases with RPM"

I think there is a difference in units between the two. The stock configuration from what i've read relates to degrees of crankshaft rotation, so a dwell duration in one rpm box would have a different setting than the same dwell duration at a different RPM. I think AEM intends for your dwell duration to decrease with RPM, but in the powerFC that may still show higher numbers as the RPMs increase.

I too have noticed this horrible breakup on the sakebomb recommended settings in wastespark. I'm trying to get clarification from many different avenues, but I think the key will be to reverse their settings, which will more closely mimick the stock dwell curve.

Its probably only an issue for the PowerFC users in wastespark as the PowerFC uses different logic than other ECU's, which you are able to just enter a target dwell duration rather than calculating it based off of something else like crankshaft rotation at RPM.

I've already lost 2 leading coils due to incorrect dwell settings.

That did not seem to hurt the engine - worked OK after replacing the coils.

Socks, your assumption about the dwell settings in the instructions you received is correct. Unfortunately in the earliest version of our "AEM Coil Harness Guide" installation instructions, we used a screenshot from a PowerFC Datalogit that was displaying incorrect dwell settings and I think you may have received a copy of this by mistake.

We realized the dwell settings issue early on and updated the screenshot in the instructions to show the correct dwell settings, however it seems a few of the old instruction booklets survived. SBG recently moved from our old shop to a new location and unfortunately it looks like a handful of old instruction booklets got thrown into a box which contained all of the newest instruction manuals. We are contacting everyone who purchased a coil kit in the past two months and sending them the newest version of instructions just to make sure everyone has the most recent version.

We apologize for the mistake and encourage anyone who has purchased our coil kit to contact us with any questions you may have regarding installation or settings.

Socks, you will be hearing from us shortly via e-mail.

Thank you everyone.

FYI they do fit and rather nicely might I add. Granted the rats nest is gone so I have plenty of breathing room, but even if it were still there, they can definitely fit well and not get too hot. This allows me to keep my AC/PS/CC all in tact and still run these coils with great results.

I had mine running wastespark on a powerFC. Switched to wastespark on an adaptronic select, and recently converted to direct fire in about an hour.

We don't have a specific mount for the RHD FD currently, but we do offer a universal mount which allows the coils to be mounted in any location with various configurations for coil mounting. IGN-1A (AEM/Mercury Marine) Smart Coil Universal Mounting System - SakeBomb Garage LLC

We also make custom spark plug wires to fit Custom Length Spark Plug Wires for IGN-1A Smart Coils or Custom Applications - SakeBomb Garage LLC, and the wiring harness will fit a wide range of coil locations without modification. FD3S: IGN-1A Smart Coil Plug & Play Mil-Spec Harness Adapter - SakeBomb Garage LLC

We can put together a custom kit for you for the same cost as the LHD setup... just shoot us an email info@sakebombgarage.com

Thanks,
Heath

P.S. A battery relocation isn't an issue, the harness is designed to attach either to the battery +/- or to the large gauge starter lead +, and a clean ground to the chassis for -

Product page is up for the universal "kit"

FD3S: Complete Package - IGN-1A Ignition Upgrade Kit + UNIVERSAL Mount - SakeBomb Garage LLC

Anyone interested in the non-cruise location please take a look. We have two harnesses left in stock, once these are gone there will be a 3-4 week wait time as we build more.

Thanks,
Heath

(any immediate questions shoot us an email... info@sakebombgarage.com as we're in the middle of a renovation here at the shop and will catch and email before a thread post).

We're down to a couple harnesses left... fist come first serve. We'll have a bit of a wait time for building more harnesses for the kits as we're working on a few other projects at the moment. Thanks everyone!

We sold out of harnesses last week once again but are building more currently. I'd estimate about a week before they are ready to ship but it it first come first serve and we've got a few backed up orders currently so I would suggest placing your order ASAP if you're trying to get these sooner than later.

Let me know if I can help with anything else

We're back in stock on full kits! If anyone is interested in doing another GB on these we can get another group going in the next month or two if there's enough interest.
