Unhappy what's happening to my REX

I just recently bought my first RX7 and while in the highway an EVO tried to test the powers of the REX so I gladly accepted his invitation and started down shifting. I was ahead until I shift to 4th gear and the car suddenly made a loud thug and started slowing down. I look at the dash and the check engine lights was on. I shifted to 5th gear and got the car moving again. This happens every now and then when I try to get the car in high RPMs sometimes in all the gears (exept 5th). I hope someone can tell me what is wrong with the car and give me an idea on how to fix it. Other than that the car is nice and fun to drive. I think it's way better than my Skyline GS-t.

You had a Skyline?? in the US?

Anyway, it might be a vacuum hose problem. Make sure all of your vacuum lines are on and secure. You might need to do the "rats nest" mod, which is replacing all of the old vacuum lines. It is a real PITA.

Do you still have boost when this happens?

motorex will import them for like a total of 25-30,000.

i would just try a compression test just to make sure that you didn't blow your engine.

No I didn't have it here in the US. I had it back in Japan. The previous owner replaced the lines with silicone but I'll check it just incease he didn't do a very good job secureing it. I'll do the compression test as soon as the car gets here from Cali. I had it ship here to Texas.

It's all good!!!

I brought my car to Gotham racing and they checked the car. They could not really redline it since there was a lot of traffic during that time in the streets we check the boost and it's boosting one bar(14psi?) they told me it's probably detonation happening inside the engine so I should what my boost since I still have the stock ECU. They'll install a Power FC and commander and a couple of gauges next month. After that I should be good to go . Thanks for the help.
