Hey John, I know what you mean !

I dunno if I am brave or just plain stupid ? when I feel the wind buffeting at over 170MPH and vibration, I think to myself "how much worse can it get?" It gets worse !

I've done about 140. She still had much more in her. BTW that was in a 45MPH zone!

Speedo said 140mph in my '91 MR2 NA... pretty much stock. But I was going down a hill, and I think my speedo is a bit off. I've had 135 on flat ground. I estimate that actually translates into ~130mph.

~70mph in my '85 RX-7 GS, but I've only driven it once so far Still gotta get it registered. I will top speed test it soon

I got my vert up to 120 once, and it was still pulling, but I got scared...that was when it was all stock. Since then, I've got a K&N air filter, and now I also have completely open exhaust. I'm going test it out when I get everything back in completely good running order...my alignment is out due to getting nailed by an uninsured motorist on my left front fender.

When WT was stock, I had it up to 5800 in 5th gear. That's a tad after redline in 4th. Speedo said 85, then again it said that halfway through 3rd gear too IIRC it calc's out to about 124mph.

Still pulling s-l-i-g-h-t-l-y, too. Backed off 'cos I was getting close to Linndale (big speed trap) and didn't feel like going to jail and whatnot. 64 over the limit is bad when 25 over is enough to lose your license...

Funny thing is, now that it's all modded, I never go over 75. I just don't see the need.

I've been up to about 150 or so in my 93 (intake, full exhaust, ecu upgrade, etc etc) and it wasn't even really breaking a sweat. Got from 90-150 pretty damn quickly. Felt very stable and had PLENTY more to go it felt like. (R1 model in case anyone's interested in R vs non-R high speed stability ratings).

I've been up to around 145 in my 87 TII (intake, computer, full exhaust, etc) and it did have more to give but stability-wise it wasn't nearly as safe feeling as in the 93.

I' ve had my 94 up to 162 and loved every minute of it. If the damn thing had more power and more road I would have gone faster. Only had one bad experience that cost me some money and a lot of work. During one top speed attempt I blew an exhaust gasket, bad, mazda gaskets are quite expensive. But the real pain in the *** was pulling the turbos to replace the gaskets. Well untill next summer top speed of 162mph.

150 in my 93 coming back from the Rotary Doctor in Neosho. It was on a new stretch of 71, smooth, flat, strait, no traffic, and most importantly no cops. She was pulling hard and had much more to go. It was also rock solid thanks to the front spoiler and new 245/45 Dunlop SP Sport 8000s.

It's been so long since I've driven the TII, I can't remember, but once the engine has been broken in after a while, I'll try it.

I never took the old 87 TII much past 120, poor alignment and crappy tires, and 180,000 miles made that speed interesting to say the least.

200 MPH?

Just out of curiosity...

I am almost done putting my single turbo FD back together... Should be pretty powerful when I'm all done with the tuning....

Does anyone think I can hit 200 mph? Wouldn't it be fun to try?

I know that the Racing Beat car back in the 90s flipped at 215 mph, but I'm not _too_ worried about that since it appears that that was mostly due to getting sideways on the slippery salt flats.

Anyhow... anyone know anything about FDs trying to break 200?

Regards,
Brian

I think that you are going to kill yourself. One of the many reasons why cars get sideways at high speed is because of rear tire traction loss which causes a yawing motion. You should not even think about attempting this without run-flat tires, a roll cage, fire system, and other appropriate safety devices. From what I have seen of cars at high speed, you would be better off in the FC.

There use to be a certain well known FC down here with 610RWHP and 720RWHP on juice that's been clocked at 200+. A friend of mine did go for a ride in the car when they were racing a modified bike that's also been clocked at 215mph and he said the tach was at 9K in fifth gear and the bike was at least 3 car lenghts behind!

yeah going sideways is what I would worry about the most. Safety equipment (like it would help much) would be helmet/4 point belts/cage.

Hmmm 200 sounds too dangerous perhaps? Plus I'm not even sure I've got the rwhp to get up there....

On the ground I've seen an indicated 183mph (probably around 170ish corrected) on my RC51 (limited production Honda race bike). In an RX-7 I've seen 140mph (FD), 130mph (TII), 142mph (GSL-SE w/60 hp nitrous etc.), and I have seen the speedo roll quite a bit past 140 in a Peri Port 13B FB w/4.88's. Not exactly sure how fast that was, but we were next to the airport driving parallel to the runway and we were passing a small jet coming in for a landing. Scary...

183-bonestock

I've hit 183 once. I've been told it will do more in the right conditions, but I doubt I'll be trying that again very soon.

I hit 160 running a C5 and a WS6 at the same time. It might have been a little faster, last I saw was 155 but I stayed in it for quite a while longer before letting off. I had way more, I'd be interested to clock it on a track and see what the top speed would be.

160 was pretty damn fast and I was pretty nervous once I hit 150. I hit 120 prob at least a few times a week. Hell I'm running 100 at the end of the entrance ramp getting on the interstate!!!!

The interstates here just dont feel right unless I'm passing everyone. Traffic here moves at about 85-90 so if your not going 100 your not making head way. I've been cruising at 85 (my wifes camery) and had 18 wheelers pass me. I'm glad I live somewhere where the traffic moves fast.

Later,
STEPHEN
