i feel the need for speed......

i hit 140 mph on the way up to west palm beach (moroso park) thats the fastes i ever went in a car and it was awsome. i have an 88 TII, she couldve done more but the highway was turning and cars where coming up. me and my pops just raced all the way up there, he has a 93 TT. theres nothing like seeing two rex's doing 100+ mph on the highway.........what a RUSH!!!!!!!! almost better than sex!

Did 165 about 6 weeks ago while racing my friends bike. The car was still pulling at the same rate it had been for the whole time. Before that I did like 5 or 6 runs of mid 140's on a nice little strip near me. I would love to know how bad it is for the engine to do top speed runs like these. I really like to do them but worry about really doing damage.

...Still about 135 for me

More when I get the license back in March!

Wonder why I lost it??
I believe Road & Track and Car & Driver both recorded speeds in excess of 170 mph when testing the fd (173 & 178 if I remember correctly) and Mazda claimed 182 I think

177MPH on Hwy 15 North of Barstow OMW to Vegas.
Very frightening, was in one of those crazy moods, conditions were perfect, and my Turbo had just been overhauled.

I have also tipped 145 several times trying to keep up with street bikes.

What's so unbelievable about a stock ZR1 hitting 183?
I'm assuming you know what they are...

I stand corrected..

I guess I was just assuming you had an RX-7, and a 3rd gen with that claimed speed

My bad

No harm no foul

I bet it wouldn't take a whole lot to get a '7 up near that range though.

130 when it was bone stock. It gets to 130 in a flash but seemed to drop off slightly enough to want to get out of the throttle before someone saw me. Now with Intake full exhaust intercooler and Stand alone ECU I might be tempted to make a run for 160+.

M2 Med Intercooler
ATR downpipe
ATR midpipe
GReddy SP Cat back
Apex PFC w/commander
ACT clutch

ahhh found the top enders club.

GSL-SE 140+ totally floored for miles, speed went up/down with the road mostly slightly downhill. took forever to get there though car was new.

'92 ZX6 stock, speedo totally pegged full tuck. Guess around 155mph speedo corrected? new bike.

After those I keep it under 140 eps in older cars which aren't prepared, it's just too insane. You guys going past 160 I'd like to ask what tires are you running and for how long are the runs. A good crash at speed and a 4-pt. ain't gonna' do **** you need a cage. The FD kinda' worries me at speed it just feels too lightweight and responds too quickly to the wheel (there are turns) then there is the rear coming out problem deadly at these elevated mph but now getting into top end vs. road racing issues kinda'.

Why aren't you entering the Pony Express or similiar? Speeds verified by radar and officially documented, safer venue on closed roads, emergency crew on hand, etc. etc. I hope to make one event next year.

WRONG. WRONG. WRONG.

Speed ratings have much more to do with the heat dissipation properties of a tire. The DOT runs a tire under "nominal" conditions (avg. weight load, 72 deg F, etc) on a roller for 30 minutes, starting at the maker's recommended pressure. Using a pyrometer and pressure gauge, they up the speeds until the tire bursts (excessive pressure) or becomes unsafe (loses tread, deforms, etc). Then they use some voodoo (formulas) using their observed pressures and speeds, and come up with a speed rating. The MAIN factor in all this is how well the tire can release heat caused by friction and flexion back into the atmosphere. That's why there are seperate ratings on a tire for speed (various letter ranges like V, X, W, Z and R), temperature (A-F), treadwear (numerical), wet traction (A-F), dry traction (A-F), and a few others I'm forgetting.

So feel free to run your S-rated tire at 149+ MPH like it's a Z rated tire. Let us know when you get out of the hospital.

Both GoodfellaFD3S and Vaelon have gotten theirs to 170. I keep wondering about you guys that are saying you would/have gone past 182mph besides the fat that you are asking for it doesn't that cause any problems to your engine since the stock 4.10 gears @ redline sits at 182mph... aka burying the needle... I guess your engines would have to be well balanced and well sturdy. Also what kindof aero mods do you guys have done. Anyone know the guy who lost it at 170 +/-5mph on the Dallas N. Tollway a couple of months ago? I heard he lived... Lucky bastard didnt have a rollcage from what I was told. I wouldn't mind having the story that I was told confirmed or dynied.
Peace, Love, Wankel,
Ryker

RX-7Addict what is so hard to believe.

I had mine to 145 and with out a doubt know it would touch 160+

When you're in 4th@WOT and the needle redlines and you shift to 5th@WOT and you feel the car start to pull with the 1st turbo and then the second turbo kicks in and pulls like a bull on steroids...well that feeling is real nice...but it does suck to have to slow down after that because of limited amount of room. My RPM needle moved at the same speed in 5th@WOT as it did in 4th@WOT.

BTW I was bone stock at 62,000 miles with 6.0-6.3 compression on both rotors.

110mph inside a gated community. Their speed limit was 25mph. I'd mention the name of the gated community, but I don't want to get banned. Had a lot left in it, but I was quickly approaching a curve.

140+ in my 85 se w/mods; 155mph in my 10th ann. (before mods) while a camaro passed me then wiped out 20 feet in front of me (we topped a hill and there was a car in his lane, we hit the brakes...mine worked better; 155mph in my 94 while my friend was videotaping; a 2 mile, 120-125mph wheelie while my friend paced me in his supra; and 184mph on my gsx-r750 with 6 witnesses all behind me on R1's, an RC51, another 750 and bringin up the rear was a ZX-7. it's addicting.

165+ on the George Bush Tollway heading west from Central to Midway road. Downpipe only at the time. Car felt great but had all kinds of wind noise from the a-pillars. The turbo Audi I left was stunned
