And on a side note, what kind of oil filter do you use? If I get my '88 GXL it needs oil and a filter, so I gotta know.

Royal Purple motor oil and a Purolater filter in the FD. The REPU gets the same filter but only gets Castrol and some Valvoline 2-stroke premix.

In my GXL - I had put...

summer: 10w50
winter: 20w50

This is all Gastrol GTX, btw.

I think. I don't know. It's been about a month since she hasn't ran. So, I could be a bit off. I do knwo that summer is a lighter, and winter is heavier.

As far as the filter goes, i'm not sure of the brand name, but we use the one that looks orange or white.

I thought gas made the car run. Anyway, I use Castrol 20W50 in mine, don't use any specific filter, has Fram on it right now.

HaHa, thats about what I do now a days. I run Mobile 1 synthetic till the pressure drops some (from it getting low) then I just add some more oil to it and every now and then I might change the filter lol

Synthetic?

I had thought you shouldn't be using Synthetic in rotaries... or so what I've been told.

I think it's because the synthetic oil doesn't burn well or at all. The oil is added to the fuel by the metering pump to aid in lubrication and help cool the rotors, u know, like a 2 stroke.

For one, the OMP on the REPU is disabled due to not wanting to figure out how to work it with the Weber carb. I chose 2-stroke because that stuff was made specifically to be mixed in with gas and burned, just like in a weedeater. I dump in 2-3 oz. in the gas tank every time I fill up.

Modern synthetics burn just as cleanly as organic oils. It used to be that they left alot of ash deposits after being burned and these deposits could build up around apex seals. This is no longer a problem with current synthetics.

Well the low oil light came on yesterday so I had to break down and buy oil for the car.

Now here's the kicker... the oil I did buy was cheapo 99 cent per quart stuff. Quaker State was cheaper than that! However, I would strongly recommend to everyone, no matter what kind of engine they are using, NOT to use "Pennsylvania" oil (Quaker State, Pennzoil) because it is known to sludge up like you would not believe. It is complete garbage. I have had engines that lived their whole lives on Quaker State and you pull the valve cover off and it looked like someone used the valve cover to make a sand castle out of sludge. Literally had to spoon the stuff out to even see the cylinder head, and the rockers were just barely visible. AWFUL.

The Pennzoil 2-cycle oil is great stuff, though. I'm only talking about motor oil.

Where do you guys get the royal purple racing oil from, I haven't seen it at any of the stores that I have checked. Any advice on where to get it.

I took the oil pan off my '74-ish REPU engine and the bottom had a very very thin sludge of blackishness. I think it was caused by Castrol 10w30 (ash content, anyone?).

Is there an oil out there that is cleaner? I think it was stated here and there that Valvoline is better than Castrol in 10w30 and 20w50 weights. I only remember Valvoline because of the word 'valve' in it lol.

30,000 miles of exclusive Castrol GTX left no weird residue inside my engine. Odd.
