I’m finally driving my car again and breaking in new motor after I had a oil line pop off on highway 2 years ago. I installed a aem oil pressure gauge so I can keep a eye on it. So far everything is working great my microtech needs a little tuning since I changed fuel injectors and switched from e85 to e 50.
It just starting to get hot here yesterday was 85 plus degrees.
Driving w no ac car stays around 82-84 Celsius on microtech.
When I turn on ac it rose to 94-98 Celsius. No problems w car was running fine. The microtech turns on a fan when ac kicks on, and the car uses a clutch fan for normal cooling. I have a Koyo radiator, undertray installed. Also I was sitting in a parking lot when temps were up that high, so it would be like if I were stuck in traffic.
Just curios what others see in these situations and I will try to get some data at cruising speeds w ac on as well.

98c is no problem at all. i am a little surprised at the difference between ac and no ac though, you might make sure the AC fan is going the right way.

you pretty much don't want it to go over 110c, and the limit is like 115-120c.

if its a turbo car you would also want to make sure your tune is ok at 98c, and at 82c

 

K thanks I already thought of the fan thing going to check that when I get time later today. I just thought it was wierd it runs perfectly cool w no ac . I was also parked no airflow but maybe the fans are working against each other

 

K thanks yeah I thought the difference was a lot that’s why I was cautious and all the work after losing oil on the highway will make you nervous. I will check the fan direction when I get home later

 

lol yes loosing oil does make you nervous! i got lucky and mine did it parked.

but anyways, use the nervous and check stuff. if thinks work the way they are supposed to, these cars are pretty tough. people have a lot of trouble because they bolt some part on, and it doesn't work the way they think it does, and boom...

 

So checked fan it goes in correct direction, topped off coolant s little low not bad.
do ran car for about 20 thirty minutes got up to temp then kicked on ac it slowly went from 84 86 c to 92 to 94and even 98 c but no higher. Turned off ac ran car another 5 to ten and it dropped back to 94-92c . Also no driving air flow just fans to cool it , it’s around 85 f outside . From doing some reading and seeing some people claim track temps of 110 c maybe I’m over thinking it. Ill try to get some results from cruising speeds w ac on next

 

oh if you're not moving i think those temps are totally fine.

 

That is kind of strange, usually cars with electric fans run cooler with the A/C on because there is more forced airflow.

Thia thread actually kinda makes me feel better, I have been driving with an actual gauge now because the cluster gauge is kinda flaky, and I was seeing 200F (roughly 92C) at one point in highway traffic and was getting concerned... normal on the highway is around 170, maybe 180. At 200 the oil pressure had dropped from 80psi to 70 at 4000rpm, too.

Sometimes gauges just give you more to worry about
