rebuild or used jdm engine?

I blew my engine that was rebuilt 6K miles ago because of improper tuning. I took my engine apart today, and the first rotor is completley gone, but hte 2nd rotor is still in great shape.

Im thinking about leaving the good 2nd rotor with the seals it has in it already, and just getting another rotor and housing and putting new seals just on that rotor. Of course the full gasket and o ring kit too. I should also get my side housings lapped too, right?

Or I was thinking of buying a used jdm s4 engine and tranny for a running engine and spare parts.

it totally depends on how what kind of timeframe you have in mind to get the car running again.

i'm so beyond buying used motors for straight engine replacements. i plan to rebuild every motor i get my hands on. i know that it means more money, but it just makes my life easier.

if you need the car done quickly, then i'd say get the used motor (and rebuild it if you can), then install and enjoy. if time is not a factor, then by all means, it'll probably make more financial sense to get a rotor (or totally different set) and the housing, a rebuild kit and have at it.

Its not so mucha time frame for me. Its money. An engine setup is about 1050 and 250-300 more for the tranny with it.

My engine was street ported by Mazdatrix. I was thinking about getting the side irons lapped, and the rotor housing ported.
After adding stuff up I got a general idea
$1000 on gaskets and seals
70x2=140 for 2 lapped housings (anyone know anywhere cheaper?)
60 for street ported housing
My cousin had a s4 t2 a few years ago and blew one rotor. He gave me his old engine, but because of bad storeage of the dissassembled engine, there is rust a the parts. I really want to clean them off and see the condition of the rotor and housings. The good housing he gave me doesnt look very chrome, but the surface is not scared.

Thanks

The jdm engine's are like the blink leading the blind. Your buying an engine from over sea's and not knowing what your getting. Lapping is coo only if it is really necessary. Your looking at spending 1095.00 through mazda trix if you buy everything that you need to build the motor.

If your not going to use the turbo housings that your bro gave you would you be willing to sell or donate to me. Im willing to buy.

If you still need that rebuild WITH STREET PORTS let me know

Don't lap your side housings.

jdm motors are more often than not junk, don't expect it to run for you, regardless of the warranty they claim to honor, because they won't.

so lapping the side housings is not recomended? I blew my first rotor pretty bad. The apex seals were pretty bad, the side seals were ok, but one of the broken apex seals jammed the side seal so it could not move. Thanks

Possibley. I really want to clean them off first. There is some rust on them, and I really want to see how far the rust went. I just need one of the housings street ported. Mazdatrix ported the engine, but when I saw their websites, they claimed to only port if the housing is up to their standards. I wanted the ports as even as possible

I was wondering if anyone sold apex sdeal kits for one rotor? I looked at a few palces and they only sold sets for 2 rotors. I need all the gaskets of course, but only seals for one of the rotors. The engine was rebuilt 5K miles ago, and the 2nd rotor was pumping out an even 120psi on the compression test. First rotor, nothing

some good reading on either getting an engine rebuilt, or doing it yourself.

btw, its WAY cheaper to buy a rebuild kit thru atkins than mazdatrix
