Quick what's this?

3rd gen 99 fd type R
Quick what is this? It goes in the coolant filler neck housing, my best guess is a temp sensor but it only has 1 wire going from it (which I just snapped off accidentally) and the case and threads are plastic

Once, I took a needle and put some hot solder on it and let it cool. Then I stuck it in the sensor where the wire was broke off with a pair of pliers and cut the needle about 3/8" out of the sensor, then I soldered my wire to the needle. I imagine the solder on the needle inside heated up as well to the inside wires. Heat shrunk it and it worked fine. I found a deal on the sensor a while later and swapped it out but never had an issue with it.
