there is probably an exhaust leak some where letting air in on decel. my car will shoot flames occasionally after i get the exhaust nice and hot, mostly b/c my carb is tuned pig rich at the moment, but it doesn't really ever back fire

air is getting in there somewhere - holes or broken welds.

Misfiring at low RPM when returning to idle seems fairly normal for older-style rotaries (particularly so for ported ones). Is that what you're referring to? Either way, you obviously have exhaust leaks.

well as far as i know i was by the previous owner it was ported, who had bought the motor with around 58k miles on it from a wrecking yard so yea another reason i think its ported cause i get worse mpg than my friends stock fb....im getting around 13-14mpg,sound right to u? im somewhat a rotary noob being my first rex and all.so im trying to figure it all out.
