push start

Hi

(I have a 1987 rx7 turbo very nice) and the engine is running way to ruch is there anyway to lean it out? Also its not staring in the morning when i need to drive it. But it will start if i push start it down a hill and shift it into 2end and pop the clutch and than it will start good all day long from there. Dose anyone know how to fix this thanks.

Your starter might be tired (old and slow). When they age, it takes more voltage to produce the same amount of cranking RPM as when they're new.

Or the ignition key switch no longer works correctly in the 'START' position.

Those are the two possible problems you've got to work with. I can't think of anything else.

Does it not crank at all, or crank slowly? If it's cranking slowly, go down under the car & clean off the connections to the starter. Clean the ground connections in the car, too.

It sounds like the starter's getting old though, and having problems when cold. Either get good at push starting it, or take the starter in to get it tested. Any halfway decent auto shop will be able to test it for free.

Theres a lot of stuff you could do. You need to take the intake manifold off and have all your injectors cleaned, you need to get a new starter and battery, replace your spark plugs and have it tuned by someone who knows how to lean it out with hurting your engine. After you do those things you should have your problem solved.

How long have the spark plugs been in their? Mileage? You could also have a faulty TPS.

is the rpm gauge jumping when you try to start the car ????? if not, it may be your crank angle sensor .....
