premix increase engine life?
premix increase engine life?
I think it was Idemitsu claimed that using their premix increases engine life over the factory OMP, is this true?
I understand some of the older rotaries have omps that are starting to get old and not working as well, but what if the omp was in perfect working condition?
Is the Idemitsu 2 stroke additive that much better than the other brands?

I read alot of posts about this. (Note- I'm no expert but Have years of rx7 knowledge. ) I've read that the stock oiler just drips a tiny amount on the center of the apex seal. Probally not even reaching to the sides. So by adding it to your fuel, it is sprayed around your whole engine. So I would agree that it does increase engine life. Plus that **** is for rotaries, and its made in JAPAN, and we all know they are smarter then us! HA ha
Good explination. I have been using Valvoline 2 cycle oil , mainley because its at the nearest auto store near my house. Anyone have any brands that didnt work so well for their engines?
I asked my mechanic who's worked on rotaries for over 30 years now, and has done work for race teams, and in his own words, "It's all the same ****."
The Idemitsu seems to smoke less though.

I've been using the Idemitsu premix on my car ever since the I changed the engine jan of 2006. You only use a 1/2 once per every gallon a fuel and it works great. I recommend you buy a case and unless your using you car as a DD it will last you at least a two years. Spending around $60 every two years is worth it when you consider the price and time of a rebuild.
I've theorized for years that perhaps a significant amount of motors that have wore out and lost compression could have been prevented by a better method of oil injection. I don't feel the factory omp systems do a good enough job at providing complete lubrication. Premix is the most logical way to acheive the proper result. However there is little to no testing and not enough first hand accounts with both to provide answers as to whether which one is better for the long term. But there's very few to hardly any professional builders who would advise against premixing so that should say a lot right there.
Me? I premix all my rotary cars and have had excellent results thus far. Its one of the first things I've done to my current fb.

-And a local engine builder showed me 2 rotor housings. One was a stock engine that had about 60k on it and you could see the wear marks due to the omp not lubricating properly.
Another housing had about 40k on a premix engine that had little wear and it was even unlike the other one that you could see where the oil just didn't make it.
Premix must be used with no OMP but can be used in conjunction, just as a previous post in this thread states.
If you care about the longevity of your engine and don't want to leave it up to a part that can fail, I would premix.
I, myself use marvel mystery oil but have not tried the more expensive stuff.

I use castrol 2-stroke
1\4 to 1\3 a bottle for every fill up with OPM.
I would recommend my favorite: the omp modification remove stock omp, block off and run remote oiling through stock oil injectors. Also run premix as the main failsafe.Long as your using premix you will never have to worry about a failed OMP.
But mostly run the stock omp with premix.

I mix 100:1 lucas 2 stroke oil in conjunction with the OMP. I started doing it when I started autocrossing because my low oil buzzer was going off around hard/fast turns. figured pre-mixing would be a good fail safe in the event of dry sumping.
just my $.02

What I want to know is how well using external oil through the stock OMP lubricates. I bought a Rotary Aviation adapter which is what draws the oil instead of modifying the stock OMP. I would guess not quite as well as premixing because of distribution...
I don't have my OMP hooked up. I run 1 oz per gallon.
What is dry sumping? Do you mean starvation? If you have starvation issues during hard cornering why don't you consider oil baffles or a trap doors? That buzzer means you're not getting enough oil to your bearings!

his may be old info for some of you, but still good reading for us new guys.
