Using premix in the tank is unquestionably better than the OMP stuff, I think. I've been doing it for 9 years now and it's curious how well the engine lasts while using it. Less wear on seals and especially the nitrided plating on the iron housings.

you're right. RA's adaptor doesn't fix the problem of lube distribution. It allows you to run synthetic but we should all know that running synthetic in an old engine is worthless and can potentially result in a loss of power....right?

Before my motor locked I always put about 16oz into ~13 gallons, which is right around 1.2oz/gallon, and my fill up would vary from 12 to 14 gallons.
+1, although 1oz of oil per gallon of fuel in the tank is a bit on the heavier side and probably better suited for race day or dyno day although it will not hurt a thing to stick to this easy ratio. You can run a thinner amount for lesser load driving like puttering around town.

i also use MMO. because its cheap and readily available.
as far as using a heavier concentrate on race or dyno day.....it seems like there would still have to be a reasonable balance of lubrication, versus lowering octane. well lubed is great! but lowering your octane significantly in the process...... almost seems like it defeats the purpose.
i have no data on this. this is just what ive gathered from reading here.

with those ratio's I dont think it can significantly lower the octane enough to matter.
1 gallon of 91 octane and 1 gallon of 100 octane =2 gallons of 95.5 octane
10 gallons of 91 octane and 10 oz of 2 stroke oil =10 gal 10oz of 90.99 octane, something like that

i dont think MMO actually advertises its 2-cycle. in fact i should prolly just switch to some 2-cycle from walmart.

I've been premixing from time to time and would always pour a few ounces in the tank before or after filling with fuel. But then I got this 2 cycle tiller and it states NOT to pour oil directly in the tank. So, from now on when I premix I will actually PREmix and use a gas can and mix up a few gallons of heavy premix and shake it up then add it to the fuel tank.
btw, I started thinking about the term 'premix' and thought, I'm not actually premixing, just adding oil to the fuel tank. So guys, maybe if you truly premix your fuel/oil it seems to have a better chance mixing and not settle out.

i know i'm reviving an old thread, but this is closest to what i've been researching for. Do any of you guys recommend premixing for a dd car? Also how do you know how much to mix? I'd hate to have to bring a gas can around and mix it; would filling the tank and doing the math on how much oil is needed and pouring it in, be a stupid idea??
1/4 ounce per gallon with working omp. And no dont bring a can to the station. Put the oil in and fill her up. Will mix fine. Above old post is idiotic. It is designed to dissolve with gas. Google "equilibrium"
