Overheating/busted fan???
Okay, so I've got my rebuilt motor broken in, and I've been running it fine. Idle's set too high, and its running rich, but I had exhaust leaks that I needed to get fixed before I could tune. So I had it in a shop, and drove it home tonight, about 2 miles. The whole way the temp gauge is climbing right up to the warning marks just as I get to my house. The overflow tank is bubbling, filled and overflowing. I let it cool down, my upper rad hose is collapsed. Pop the cover, rad is missing a lot, so I add water and close it up. Start it, idle for a 15 minutes, take it for a run around the block, idle for another 5 minutes, never went above 1/3 like normal.
Now, the car had been running nice and cool before I had the exhaust taken care of. (The gasket between the header and cat kept blowing out because the two pieces wouldn't mate up perfectly.) When I started the car, the fan kicked in and seemed to be running okay. After shutting it off I checked the fan, and found the following: one blade was busted in half lengthwise, and when I tried to spin the fan, it turned easily enough until it one of the blades started rubbing on the shroud.
Now obviously, the fan needs to be replaced, but could this somehow have caused the overheating?

The fan does a lot to keep the car cool, especially when the car is in slow traffic. Did you see the fan on while you were idling for 15 minutes? Change the fan but make sure the fan relays are good so your new fans can work.
If you have the car sit for 10 min after it's driven, the fan should come on. If not, your relays are probably busted.
