Oil seal question

I've just begun assembling the rotors for my rebuild, and I'm now to the point where I'm installing the oil seals (I have new o-rings, seals, and springs from Atkins). I've gone ahead and lubed up the o-rings and installed them (aligned to the spring tab and the spring is aligned to the small circular tab in the rotor). The FSM says to push the seal down 0016" below the surface of the rotor, which I did by uing an old oil seal. My question is concerning the seals 'free height'. After pushing the seals in, they are siiting at about .070" - 0.080" above the stationary gear height. They move freely up and down and appear to be seated correctly. What I'm concerned about is watching the RA video, their seals appear to be almost completely flush with the rotor, and mine definitely are not... is this normal? Or have I just not correctly seated the seals yet?

Thanks for any help guys, go easy on me, I'm a newbie!! LOL!

Any chance you could post up some pics of what you are describing?
Sometimes the new viton orings can be difficult to press in.
I like to use a wood block and REALLY press them in hard.

seal spring is preferrable to having too much tension on the o-rings or flattened springs that the seals do not come back out.

Great idea, I'll get a pic tonight to clarify what I'm talking about. Surprisingly, they went in pretty easily, I was preparing for a real fight with them after all of the reading that I've done concerning the viton orings.

Thanks!

They definitely protrude from the rotor face, I was just concerned that it might be "too much" (.070" or so). There's a good amount of spring to them and they move freely, which I guess I'd expect with new springs.

Thanks for the reply!

Looks about right with new o-rings and springs.
