No Spark

I got a 89 GXL with a s5 jdm T2 13b with a knights sport ECU swapped in it..I have tested the plugs wires for spark as well as the packs for spark and i've got nothing...i've gone through the wiring harness to make sure everything is connected as it should be and from what i can tell it is...the only thing i can think of is that the ECU may not be programmed and isn't sending spark to the motor? am i on the right track here or should i be looking at something else first?

The spark is triggered by a hal effect sensor in the bottem of you distributor, unfortunately to properly test one you need a $10000 tool, or the sensor and the right software for your computer

i'm pretty busy so i've only looked at this a couple times in the last month, but i'm still having the same problem...i replaced the ecu with one of my friends that i know is working and still no spark. Also you can't crank the motor over using the key, i had to wire the starter to crank using a push button.

could this be associated with my problem?

also i've checked the crank positioning sensor and it is working fine. does anyone have any other ideas. I have searched the forums for hours and have found nothing related to my problem.
