Question Need help diagnosing unusual misfiring (FD)

Hello all!
I just got my 1995 FD compression tested, and somehow after 94k miles with no rebuild, it is actually running a shade above factory spec. The car runs extremely well as soon as you take the revs up just a tiny bit, and continues to run flawlessly to what I think is around redline (broken tach). However when idling the engine feels like it's misfiring and just has a mildly rough idle. I've gone through the forums and can't find any issues that are the exact same as this, so thought I'd better ask you guys myself. Just changed the plugs (didn't fix it) and dumped some injector cleaner in the tank to no avail. Also possibly normal and unrelated, but once the car warms up there is a strong smell of oil (stronger than I believe these oil burners should smell) is that normal? Cheers.

Has it started consuming coolant or oil?

Mine is now ready for a rebuild, there is a water seal on the way out and the set of second hand turbos is losing oil on the intake side. Manifests in occasionally stalling and missing once warm and requiring more idle air.

It hasn't started consuming any fluids yet to my knowledge, and it doesn't have any issues in regards to stalling. It misfires heavily at start up, and then smooths out the more it's driven, until it almost fixes itself completely. I shut the car off today and I smelled gas for the first time, wondering if there could be an injector problem causing it to run rich?

put your nose (or someone) down near the lower fuel rail, where the intake meets the engine, these things can leak fuel externally, and on a hot engine its bad

all good advice above.

start the engine cold. let it misfire for a minute. turn the engine off before it smoothes out. pull the two lower plugs.

are they wet or dry?

I had an oil leak fixed, and there is no longer any oil smell, apart from a possible oil/something else smell that is barely noticeable in the cabin. There's definitely a gas smell coming from the exhaust, and I even went and smelled it a couple hours later, and still there was a strong enough gas smell. Will check the fuel rail now and attempt to pull the plugs sometime today.
