The Engine code 17 is "Feedback system for 02 sensor". Now what the hell is that? The 02 Sensor is code 16 so I dont think the sensor itself is the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

The ECU doesn't constantly monitor the O2 signals. The moment that it does is called the feedback stage. During this moment, the ECU is expecting to see a certain reading from the O2 sensor, and it is not. It is either reading too rich or too lean during this stage. For whatEVER reason, the ECU suspects the engine is not running properly.

The manual suggests checking the following:
O2 sensor wiring
Fuel pressure
Faulty injectors
Water thermosensor
Air leaks in intake system
Ignition system

I would first start with the O2 sensor, since this is where the ECU is getting it's reading from to display the feeback error code.

Thanks for your post. I will have to check some things now. Probably the old paper gasket under my Plenum needs replacement with the metal one.

What is your vacuum on at idle? That is a good indication if you have an air leak.

Well this is the Long and short of it. When I start it up in the am the idle surges up and down and then its levels off at 1k. No 3k cold start like normal. It just hangs at 800-1k until its warmed up. Vacuum looks normal other than that. I am pretty sure its the gasket. The only problem now is ordering one from Mazda and replacing it. Do I also need a lower intake manifold gasket or are those less prone or are those already metal? I havnt ever dug down that deep inside the motor. Might as well send the intake and thrttle body off to be polished so it will match the Intercooler and M2 intake pipes. Good time to do a tie wrap as well. Thats a hassle I dont even want to think about.

That sounds more like it is associated with the AWS, but since the ECU is claiming that the engine is not running right, who knows WHAT it could be.

The early paper gasket known to fail is located between the lower intake manifold and the engine. Unfortunately, to remove the lower intake manifold, you also need to remove the entire turbo assembly. It's a fairly decent sized job, which is why most shops would charge about $500+ to do it.

This is a perfect opportunity to do the following. Your only limit will be your wallet.

High flow turbo replacement
DP install
MP
Tie wrap and silicone hose install
replacement of turbo coolant lines
Replacement of spark plugs and wires (since the upper intake will be removed)
Port and polish upper and lower intake manifolds
Polish exhust manifold
Enlarge wastegate
Airpump removal and installing of pullies
Send injectors to be cleaned (since they will be easily accessible)

By the way, if you would have posted this in the 3rd gen tech section, I would have seen it

ATR SS downpipe and Midpipe and sitting in thier box in the garage. M2 intake is on the way here as we speak. Apexi PFC should arive tomorrow like jason said it would. Got the Yellow Silicone hose kit with tie wraps sitting in the basement. Planned on sending out the Plenum and Throttle body to RX7fashion for polishing. Was thinking about efini y-pipe as well but it wont fit well with most aftermarket intercoolers I am looking at "m2 Medium. I plan to get that or the groub buy SMIC this week. So instead I bought new couplers from mazda for the old Y-pipe as well as a few brittle hoses. Hard pipe kit for intake might be ordered this week, havnt made up my mind yet. Just sold a brand new set of Turbos cause I want to go single when this one crokes. Its been rebuilt so we will see how it holds up under 15 psi. WHen its toast its T04 time. looking at a new 02 seonsor online right now. The Bosch is heated so I will go that route I think. Bought a Commander mount last week. Should be here soon for the install. Already did the Engine, trans, ACT clutch, short shifter and Greddy cat back as well as Cross drilled rotors axxis pads and speed bleeders dot 4 fluid and some other details to the brakes. Powder coated my wheels white and bought a new set of S-02's. Replaced Bose with a sony unit and adapter. Replaced all plastic pieces that were cracked or broken inside the cabin. Did the feed headlight cover and bought new wipers from mazda last week! Has been repainted and Efini symbols front and rear! And I paid for it all in Cash!! SO yeah this is a good time to get some things done that I have left. Nothing Mickey Mouse here FLybye. Next will be fuel system upgrades. But thats when I find the limits of the stock one.

Ok then stop your whining and get to work!
If you get the PFC before you slap everything together, Get yourself some better injectors. Remember the PFC handles up to 1500cc injectors. People have told me the 1200 could be unreliable since they are only bore out 850s, but I haven't heard anyone complain about them.
