Question Just got my engine rebuilt, but it's running smokey...

Hi, I just got my engine rebuilt (13B Turbo) by a reputable workshop. Anyway, it runs perfect, idles smooth, and all the rest of it, but it is smokey (like it is running rich). Eg. when you first start it, it is smokey at idle, but it seems to become less smokey after a while. However it is smokey under load. Is this common with freshly rebuilt engines? (mine's only done 25miles / 40kms) Or is it something else? I think maybe my cat is screwed; could it be that? Or is it all in the tuning (I'm running a Microtech MTX8)?

Did anyone here have the same experience?

I've done five, and each one smoked real bad at the beginning thirty minutes due to the way too much oil I slather the innards with while building. That excess oil and vaseline etc gets sent right away to the exaust system. Well the engine starts, but it takes some time for the exaust system to heat up enough to burn all that excess out. Usually gone in an hour at the most. You need to break your engine in (only 25 miles ain't far) before panicing. Might talk with the fellow who built it. That said, I'll do a 180 now and say it does not sound quite right, especially if you can see the smoke as you drive the car. I'm not going to tell you how to break in a engine. The mechanic should have told you. Just my opinion.

The smoke is light grey-ish. I have a friend with a Series 4 RX7 who's running it without cats (tsk tsk) and the smoke is kinda the same colour as his, except there's more of it. I think maybe I'm just being paranoid or something. I should probably rack up a few more k's on the engine and see what happens.

Oh, and RotorMaster (www.rotormaster.com.au) rebuilt the engine.
